Kawhi Leonard is seriously considering attending USA Basketball national team's minicamp in Las Vegas next week. Leonard holds some enthusiasm for showcasing his revitalized health in the wake of the quad injury that has been at the center of discord between the Spurs and him, sources said.
Gregg Popovich will lead the camp in his role as national team coach.
Leonard continues to seek a trade from the San Antonio Spurs.
A bidding war among the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers never materialized. The Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards are among teams who've talked with the Spurs, league sources said.
The Celtics and 76ers appear to have lost traction in their appetite to trade for Leonard as they're well-positioned for the future regardless. The Lakers appear to be playing the longer game in trade talks.
The Spurs have yet to allow prospective trade partners to talk directly with Leonard or his reps.
Dwight Howard agreed to give back $5 million in his buyout with the Brooklyn Nets.
Howard is getting a similar amount with the Washington Wizards after signing a two-year, $11 million deal.
Howard was initially due $23.8 million in the final season of his deal that the Nets acquired from the Charlotte Hornets.
While DeMarcus Cousins has been a difficult personality at certain points in his career, the Golden State Warriors internally made clear that they preferred to add him as a teammate than Dwight Howard.
Draymond Green, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson played with Cousins on the 2016 Olympics team, while Curry played with him on the 2014 World Cup team.
"I've heard and haven't reported this, and maybe this will get aggregated," said Tim Kawakami on The Lowe Post. "I really heard this. It's better than Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard was a 'no'. That was a 'no' in a lot of precincts of the Warriors. Flat out 'no'. And so DeMarcus Cousins against that backdrop is a thumbs up.
"Draymond clearly a 'yes' (on Cousins). Durant probably a 'yes'. Curry probably. The guys who knew him. Maybe others, we'll see.
"Dwight Howard was a 'no'. Let's not do that.
"Dwight's older but he's more healthy and obviously incredibly talent. That was not going to happen."
Kawakami added that he perceived the situation as the decision to rule out Howard made Cousins an easier risk to take on.
Howard ultimately agreed to sign with the Washington Wizards.
Dwight Howard has secured a buyout with the Brooklyn Nets and will sign with the Washington Wizards for the taxpayers mid-level exception of $5.3 million once he clears waivers.
Howard was traded by the Charlotte Hornets to the Nets in June with the agreement not yet official.
The Wizards can offer Howard their starting center job.

Nerlens Noel has narrowed his free agent decision to the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Noel has also received interest from the New Orleans Pelicans.
Noel turned down a four-year, $70 million contract offer last season from the Mavericks.
Noel has since hired Klutch Sports as his agent.
The Washington Wizards have interest in DeMarcus Cousins in a sign-and-trade.
Cousins has long been linked to his former Kentucky teammate John Wall.
Sources, however, say the odds are long that a deal will actually be worked.
Alex Len is a more realistic target for the Wizards at center.
Cousins could be down to the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans for his free agency market.
