Hawks, Knicks, Suns Expected To Pursue Davis Bertans

Aug 26, 2020 1:38 PM

The Washington Wizards have made re-signing Davis Bertans a priority in free agency, but they're expected to have competition from rival teams.

The Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns are expected to pursue Bertans, sources tell Chase Hughes of NBC Sports

The Hawks will have the most cap space in the NBA.

Washington will be able to go over the cap to re-sign Bertans by owning his Bird rights. League sources expects Bertans to sign for $15 million to $20 million per season.

Wizards Will Retain Scott Brooks As Head Coach For 20-21 Season

Aug 19, 2020 10:42 PM

The Washington Wizards will retain Scott Brooks as head coach for the 20-21 season.

Brooks is entering the final season of his five-year deal.

"He's a decorated coach. He's been in the league a long time as a player and as a coach. Very accomplished guy," Tommy Sheppard said Wednesday on a video conference call with reporters. "And I think we're in great hands next season."

The Wizards went 25-47 this season with a 1-7 record during the restart. Washington played the entire season without John Wall as he recovered from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

"Assuming that the season were to start, even in October, both John and Bradley would be ready to go in a normal preseason," Sheppard said. "I feel strongly when the first day of training camp starts, we will have -- knock on wood, barring anything between now and then -- John and Bradley ... at full health, ready to go."

Giannis Antetokounmpo Calls Head-Butt On Moe Wagner A 'Terrible Action'

Aug 12, 2020 1:22 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo was ejected in the second quarter after receiving a flagrant foul 2 for head-butting Moe Wagner during the Milwaukee Bucks' 126-113 win over the Washington Wizards.

"Terrible action. If I could go back, turn back time and go back to that play, I wouldn't do it. But at the end of the day, we're all human, we all make mistakes. I think I've done a great job all year, in my career at keeping my composure and focus on the game but at the end of the day, we're human and make mistakes," said Antetokounmpo after the game.

It was Antetokounmpo's fourth ejection of his career.

Mike Budenholzer added that the league needed to review several plays that lead up to the ejection before doling out punishment.

"Giannis has been dealing with this for a long time. He's a MVP. People are gonna try him. He normally is phenomenal and today was a slip up. I think it's probably in some ways, it could be one of the best things that happened today and it's a learning moment."

Bradley Beal, John Wall, Davis Bertans Stay Connected With Wizards During Restart

Aug 5, 2020 1:06 PM

The Washington Wizards have been without Bradley Beal, John Wall and Davis Bertans during the restart, but they have tried to stay involved by watching daily practices and participating in meetings and team group chats.

The Wizards have set up live video links to those activities so players and staff who are not in the bubble can participate.

Bertans will be a free agent this offseason.

When Beal has missed a particle or meeting, he has checked in with Tommy Sheppartd on what he missed. Wall and Beal have also offered guidance to the younger players throughout the restart.
