Sean Marks Unwilling To Mortgage Future To Add Third Star

Nov 20, 2020 11:08 AM

Sean Marks held a press conference on Friday and said the Brooklyn Nets are balancing maximizing the present while also building a sustainable team. The Nets have been linked with a possible trade for James Harden, which both Harden and Kevin Durant are believed to be pushing for. Brooklyn has previously been linked with a trade for Bradley Beal as well.

"When you say mortgage, probably no," said Marks. "We want to build something sustainable. The other side is take advantage of what we have now, take advantage of the moment.”

Marks also is trying to have an honest dialogue about the possibility of a trade with the players currently on the Brooklyn roster.

"Our culture is important," said Marks. "Getting this group prepared in such a short time. I don't know if it's the ugly part of the business, the strange part of the business, the awkward part. I think it needs to be discussed. I've talked to several of our players about this and just said 'Look, forget the rumors. Let's just go out there and concentrate on what we have in hand, which is the group that's here.'

"I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said, 'Look, nothing is ever going to happen.' At the same time, they understand that this is a business. Let's be prepared. I sincerely I mean it. Look, I like this group we have. The group has been together for a while now. We continue to add some pieces to it. Training camp is going to be competitive and it's going to be fun with the group we have. If things change, things change. I think you have to have those honest conversations with players as it goes and not let the rumors simmer in the background."

Rockets Have Given Up Keeping James Harden, Will Be Patient With Trade

Nov 19, 2020 10:26 PM

The Houston Rockets have come to the realization that James Harden would like to move on from franchise and his mind is made up, but they are not preparing to rush into a trade to his preferred destination.

Houston previously has said they are "willing to get uncomfortable" with the Harden situation.

"The sense I get from the Rockets is that their ambition, their goal, their hope is no longer about salvaging the relationship with James Harden and kind of getting him on board," said Tim MacMahon on the Brian Windhorst Podcast. "There's a realization, you know, his mind is made up. He wants out and there is a determination to say 'Okay, we get it. This happens in the NBA, but just because James Harden wants out doesn't mean he gets to dictate where and for what [he's traded].

"James Harden got to dictate the Russell Westbrook trade last summer. Tillman [Fertitta] liked it too at the time. Don't get me wrong. James Harden was the driving force behind that trade. That was no secret.

"Harden doesn't get to say where he's traded and basically force the Rockets to take a package that is 60 cents on the dollar for a perennial MVP candidate. I think what the Rockets are doing right now is they're prepping for the post-Harden rebuild."

MacMahon also reported what the Rockets are seeking for Harden.

"A package for Harden, and listen, this thing has accelerated a lot faster than I anticipated it would. These things are all fluid. We understand that. What the Rockets are saying is 'We need a young franchise cornerstone type of player and a Jrue Holiday-like package of picks. That's where conversations have to start.' And do you see a young franchise cornerstone caliber player on the Nets? Do you consider Caris LeVert either young or a franchise cornerstone?"

"Well, he's not Ben Simmons if that's your point," replied Brian Windhorst.

For the Russell Westbrook situation, there isn't a trade for them to make so they hope to keep him for now and he could possibly increase his trade value.

Bill Simmons: Kyrie Irving To Miami In Three-Way Trade Was Brief Draft Night Rumor

Nov 19, 2020 10:40 AM

With James Harden attempting to orchestrate a trade to the Brooklyn Nets to play with Kevin Durant, there was a rumor of a potential three-way trade involving the Houston Rockets with Kyrie Irving going to the Miami Heat.

"There was a rumor, not true, or if it was true it maybe lasted a second that they were trying to figure out a three-way deal with Kyrie ending up in Miami," said Bill Simmons on The Ryen Russillo Podcast. "Which I refuse to believe."

Irving and Kevin Durant have yet to play a game together.

"I don't think that will happen. I think Harden is going to end up going to Philly, if I had to bet."

Simmons adds he expects both Harden and Russell Westbrook to be traded within the next few days.

"I didn't fully believe it until the Horford trade today that secretly saved Philly a lot of money. With however much you have to add with whatever that Harden trade is. I think we all agree the Harden, Ben Simmons trade, whatever looks like, is the most logical trade. If Houston is going to trade Harden, they have to get someone like Ben Simmons back or it's not worth it."

Kevin O'Connor interjected that there has been speculation that Tillman Fertitta wouldn't trade Harden to Daryl Morey, but that position could be a negotiating tactic.

Sources Deny Report Nets, Rockets Close On James Harden Trade

Nov 18, 2020 11:23 AM

Sources have denied a report that the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets are nearing a verbal agreement on a trade involving James Harden.

Brooklyn would almost certainly have to build a trade package centered around Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen and multiple first round picks.

The Rockets would prefer a young star for Harden rather than a collection of assets to initiate a long rebuild.

The Nets have had contact with Houston on a trade, but nothing substantive has materaizlied.

Clippers, Celtics Not Currently Pursuing Trade For James Harden

Nov 17, 2020 7:12 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers are not currently pursuing a trade for James Harden, a source tells The Athletic.

The Clippers are limited in what they can offer in a trade following their 2019 deal for Paul George.

Houston appears to be patient in terms of their timeline of when they will trade Harden. The Brooklyn Nets appear to be the favorites to trade for Harden.

Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reports that the Boston Celtics are also not interested trading for Harden.

Report: Nets, Rockets Nearing James Harden Trade

Nov 19, 2020 8:46 AM

According to a report from Anthony Puccio of Front Office Sports, the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets are nearing a deal involving James Harden. Puccio was one of the first reporters to reveal Kyrie Irving's interest in signing with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.

While the deal isn't "official", sources say the Nets and Rockets have a "verbal agreement." It has been speculated that the Nets' offer would be built around Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen and pick compensation.

Harden declined a two-year, $103 million extension with the Rockets.

Harden has been seeking a trade to the Nets coming on the heels of working out with Kevin Durant over the past few weeks on the West Coast.

Houston prefers to trade Harden to an Eastern Conference team.

Update: Puccio reported on the Thursday morning after the draft that the Nets still believe they have a verbal agreement, but the Rockets have not been commutative for the past 24 hours.
