Kyrie Irving has made it known that he hopes to get an extension done with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets would presumably like to keep Irving, but reportedly feel no pressure to get anything done in a swift manner.

There have been no significant extension discussions between Irving and Brooklyn. Both sides have until June 30 to agree to extend Irving's deal. If no agreement is reached, Irving will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

If Irving chose to leave the Nets in free agency, it's likely that would have to be via a sign-and-trade. Most of the teams in position to sign Irving outright in free agency aren't a fit at this time. That means getting to a non-cap space team would have to involve Brooklyn agreeing to a deal.

The market for Kyrie Irving should he become a free agent this offseason is uncertain. Irving is interested in an extension with the Brooklyn Nets, according to his agent Shetellia Irving.

The Nets made an offer to Irving last offseason but were unable to agree to terms. Irving also sought out other offers via sign-and-trade, but nothing materialized. 

In Chris Haynes report last week, he indicated Irving "is expected to have ample interest from around the league."

ESPN's Brian Windhorst is skeptical of Irving's market.

"Chris implied that there would be a number of teams interested in him if he became an unrestricted free agent this summer," said Windhorst on his podcast. "That's where this conversation has I think a diversion. I'm not sure how many teams would be interested in him this summer...

"I also don't think there are going to be a ton of suitors who have cap space."

The Los Angeles Lakers were the team most strongly linked to Irving last offseason, but they recently made a trade for Rui Hachimura that signals they don't plan on creating the most cap space possible and may elect to stay over the cap.

Kyrie Irving is seeking a contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets, but his agent tells Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report that discussions have yet to commence.

Irving is in the final season of his current deal and would become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if an extension isn't reached.

"Around Kyrie and staying with the Nets? I have reached out to the Nets regarding this," his agent Shetellia Irving told Bleacher Report. "We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets' court to communicate now if their desire is the same."

Irving is eligible for a max extension of four years and roughly $200 million.

Kevin Durant is making progress in his recovery from a sprained MCL and will be reevaluated again in two weeks.

Sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic that there is optimism that Durant will return before the All-Star break and play in the All-Star Game.

Durant was one of the MVP candidates before his injury.

Kyrie Irving sat out the Brooklyn Nets' 106-98 loss to the San Antonio Spurs due to a sore right calf.

Jacque Vaughn said that he does not believe the injury is serious, and that Irving will not need an MRI.

"Just reported a little tightness. It's essentially just day to day. We'll check on him [Wednesday], and hopefully this is short-term," said Vaughn.

Seth Curry, starting for Irving, finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. 

The trade market for Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins continues to swirl. The Washington Wizards, Utah Jazz, Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers all have registered vary degrees of interest in trading for Collins.

Recently, the Hawks gave Collins representatives to seek a deal on their own. Atlanta is currently in a front office transition, as Travis Schlenk stepped aside from leading the basketball operations. Landry Fields was promoted to general manager, and Kyle Korver was elevated to assistant GM.

Collins' production has dipped this season, as he's often the Hawks third to fifth option on many nights. The sixth-year big man is taking just 10.3 field goal attempts per game, which is his lowest figure since his rookie season. Without consistent touches, Collins' field goal percentage has fallen under 50% (49.6%) for the first time in his career, including a career-low 23.6% on three-pointers.

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to sign Dru Smith to a Two-Way contract.

Smith played five games for the Miami Heat earlier this season and is averaging 18.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.9 assists in the G League.

The Brooklyn Nets played and lost their first game after Kevin Durant suffered a knee sprain. The Nets got good defense, rebounding and playmaking from Ben Simmons in the loss, but Simmons knows he needs to do more.

After taking just three shots, and missing all of them, Simmons admitted he has to look to score while Durant is out.

“I think I’m giving the ball up way too many times when I know who I am. I know I need to get to the rim and get buckets," Simmons said.

Nets coach Jacque Vaughn said he doesn't want Simmons to worry about scoring too much. Vaughn said he wants Simmons to focus on his defense. Vaughn believes that the defense will help create opportunities for the offense.

The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on Alondes Williams.

Williams originally signed a two-way contract with Brooklyn on July 4, 2022. He appeared in one game with the Nets, logging five minutes of action on Dec. 10 at Indiana. Williams also played in 11 games in the 2022 NBA G League Showcase Cup with Brooklyn's NBA G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, registering averages of 9.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 26.2 minutes per game, as well as five 2022-23 regular season NBA G League games with Long Island, averaging 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 19.6 minutes per contest.

Brooklyn's roster now stands at 16 players, including one two-way player.

Kevin Durant has been diagnosed with a sprain in the MCL of his right knee and will be out at least two weeks.

Durant suffered the injury during Sunday's win by the Brooklyn Nets over the Miami Heat. Durant missed six weeks last season with an MCL sprain.

Durant is averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists this season.
