Lakers Believed To Have Towns, Mudiay Ahead Of Okafor On Board

Apr 29, 2015 3:05 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are believed by Chad Ford to have Emmanuel Mudiay ahead of Jahlil Okafor on their board.

There could be some overlap with Julius Randle and Okafor, though they have Okafor ahead of D'Angelo Russell and Justise Winslow.

If the Lakers win the lottery, they are expected by Ford to pick Karl-Anthony Towns.

Lakers Remain Interested In Rajon Rondo Despite New Skepticism

Apr 28, 2015 1:34 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers remain interested in signing Rajon Rondo this offseason, but sources say Jim Buss is not the believer in his game he was earlier in the season.

Mitch Kupchak also believes Rondo is only a value at a certain price.

The Lakers hope to sign a foundational piece in free agency and they're not convinced Rondo is that type of player.

The Lakers are expected to have approximately $22 million in cap space.

Celtics Closed Gap On Lakers As Suitor For Kevin Love

Apr 26, 2015 11:46 PM

Throughout the season, the Boston Celtics closed the gap on the Los Angeles Lakers as a possible destination for Kevin Love if he left the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to sources.

The Celtics were waiting for July, and the chance to let coach Brad Stevens lay out Love's expanded role in his system. General manager Danny Ainge wanted a chance to sell Love on a vision for surrounding him with complementary talent, on maximizing his popularity as New England's next star.

Love could miss time in the Cavaliers' second round series.

Rajon Rondo Planned To Sign Max Contract With Lakers Before Mavs' Trade

Apr 22, 2015 11:13 AM

Rajon Rondo had planned on signing with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent in the summer when it became clear that he no longer had a future with the Boston Celtics, according to sources.

Rondo expected a maximum contract to be signed.

When the Dallas Mavericks traded for Rondo, he was open to re-signing with the franchise. Rondo reportedly hasn't given up on that possibility despite the issues that have arisen, but sources say he won't return if Rick Carlisle is retained as head coach.

With how poorly Rondo has played since going to the Mavericks and since his ACL injury, a maximum contract is almost uncertain to be offered to him.

Ed Davis Hopes To Re-Sign With Lakers If Everything Is Equal With Other Teams

Apr 22, 2015 12:26 AM

Ed Davis will opt out of his contract for the 15-16 season with the Los Angeles Lakers to test free agency.

"I'm going to test free agency," Davis told The Times in a telephone interview. "Hopefully I'm back with the Lakers, as long as everything is equal with all the other teams."

The Lakers signed Davis last summer to a two-year, $2.1-million minimum contract.

Davis had a productive season for the Lakers.

"This is where I want to call home," said Davis.  "The city, the coaching staff, the owners, the [general manager], everything like that -- I'm definitely comfortable."

"I look at Coach [Byron] Scott.  He's always been a straight shooter with me since day one.  If he says something, he means it. I think [General Manager] Mitch Kupchak is the same way.  They don't just tell guys things they want to hear, but tell the truth and you know exactly how they feel."

Lakers Plan To Use Max Money In Upcoming Free Agency

Apr 17, 2015 10:28 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers will spend money available to them this summer and hope to land a superstar talent such as Kevin Love.

"Two years from now, it looks like almost every team in the league is going to have cap room," Mitch Kupchak said Thursday. "We do have a lot of cap room this summer. You can look at that as a strategic advantage, yeah."

The Lakers could have consecutive summers of spending maximum salary money.

"We have the ability to recruit and sign at least one max player this summer," Kupchak said.
