Wolves To Interview Chauncey Billups For President Of Basketball Ops Job

Chauncey Billups has emerged as a candidate for the Minnesota Timberwolves' President of Basketball Operations job.

Billups will interview in the near future with the Wolves.

Billups interviewed for the same role with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017, but he chose to remain at ESPN.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been granted permission to interview Michael Winger.

Winger is in his second season with the Los Angeles Clippers after spending several seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Winger has been credited with having a significant impact on the Clippers' front office.

Glen Taylor has identified a number of other potential candidates to oversee their front office.

Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports the Wolves have also been granted permission from the Houston Rockets to interview Gersson Rosas.

Jeff Teague has opted into his 19-20 player option with the Minnesota Timberwolves worth $19 million.

Teague underwent a successful debridement of his left ankle on Thursday.

Teague signed a three-year, $57 million deal with the Wolves in 2017.

Timberwolves Plan To Keep Scott Layden, Ryan Saunders

The Minnesota Timberwolves plan to keep general manager Scott Layden and interim coach Ryan Saunders in their current roles.

Saunders is expected to sign a three-year deal later this week.

The Timberwolves never contacted any outside candidates for Layden's position. Layden is a holdover from the Tom Thibodeau era. 

The Athletic, however, reported the Wolves will hire a new president of basketball operations who will ultimately decide whether to retain Layden and Saunders.

Wolves Sign Mitch Creek

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed Mitch Creek.

Creek, 26, was originally signed by the Timberwolves to a 10-Day Contract on March 30, 2019. He played in four games with the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season after signing a 10-Day Contract on January 25, 2019 and a second 10-Day Contract on February 4, 2019. The 6-5 forward averaged 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 9.0 minutes per game with Brooklyn. Creek played in 41 games (32 starts) with the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League this season, averaging 15.3 points, on 55.4% shooting, 5.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 30.5 minutes per game.

Robert Covington Undergoes Successful Surgery On Right Knee

Robert Covington underwent a successful diagnostic arthroscopic procedure with debridement and removal of loose bodies in his right knee. The surgery was performed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. by Timberwolves Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Diane Dahm of Mayo Clinic.

Covington will remain out indefinitely and further updates to his progress will be issued when available.

In 22 games with the Wolves this season, Covington averaged 14.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals.
