Mar 24, 2021 4:50 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have no plans to entertain trade offers for Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell or Anthony Edwards at the deadline, sources tell The Athletic

The Wolves view Towns, Russell and Edwards "as pillars of the plan to pull the team out of the Western Conference basement."

Minnesota has been receiving a lot of calls on Malik Beasley and Jaden McDaniels, but there is a reluctance to part with either of them.

Warriors Would Have Taken Anthony Edwards Over LaMelo Ball At No. 2

Mar 16, 2021 4:01 PM

The Golden State Warriors selected James Wiseman at No. 2, which has already become a scrutinized due to the emergence of LaMelo Ball. But the Warriors could have even selected Anthony Edwards over Ball. All three rookies have shown glimpses of star potential though Ball has separated himself this season.

"They really believe in James Wiseman," said Ramona Shelburne on The Hoop Collective Podcast. "They think he's going to become a future All-Star. They think he's going to be a future pillar of the franchise.

"I checked... there was a storyline out there that LaMelo Ball thought they were going to pick him at two. Everything I've been told is that that's a miscommunication or something was wrong there."

"As far as I know, they were laser focused [on Wiseman]," replied Brian Windhorst.

"A very good source told me they would have picked James Wiseman No. 1 if they had the pick. He was the highest on their board. They never wavered on that. If Minnesota would have taken Wiseman one, the Warriors would have taken Anthony Edwards at No. 2.

"I think some of the issue with LaMelo is... They really liked LaMelo. They were really high on him. I don't know if they were as bullish on the fit with Stephen Curry. And at the time, remember, most of the time they were seeing him Klay Thompson was still okay."

Karl-Anthony Towns: Anthony Edwards Was Right Decision For Wolves

Mar 16, 2021 2:32 PM

Karl-Anthony Towns backed Anthony Edwards as the "right decision" at No. 1 for the Minnesota Timberwolves. LaMelo Ball is currently the clear favorite for Rookie of the Year, but Edwards was the better fit considering Minnesota's need on the wing after the team recently acquired D'Angelo Russell.

"Let me say it was the right decision for us as an organization," said Town. "I want to make that clear."

Edwards has a PER of 15.6 in four games in March after struggling in January and February.

James Wiseman was the other possible pick at No. 1, but he would have likely conflicted with Towns from a positional perceptive.

Celtics Interested In John Collins

Mar 15, 2021 11:14 AM

The Boston Celtics have interest in trading for John Collins, though the asking price from the Atlanta Hawks may be prohibitive for them. The Hawks are seeking a first round pick and/or a talented young player.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have also been linked to Collins with ESPN's Jackie MacMullan indicating last week that they had serious interest.

Collins will be a restricted free agent.

For the Celtics, Harrison Barnes is likely a more realistic target.

Kevin Garnett Announces He's Out Of Running To Purchase Wolves

Mar 5, 2021 11:14 AM

Kevin Garnett announced on Instagram that he is out of the running to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Garnett and Glen Taylor have had an icy relationship in recent years with Garnett feeling Taylor broke promises that were made when he returned to the Wolves in 2015. Saunders and Garnett spoke often about their desire to put a group together to buy the team from Taylor, but Saunders died in October of that year. Garnett called Taylor “a snake” and ripped him in interviews with The Athletic and TNT.

Garnett has either complimented Taylor or has gone out of his way to avoid criticizing him of late.

Taylor was open to being approached by Garnett or a group representing him, but there was always skepticism that Garnett could amass enough money to meet an asking price that was expected to soar well past $1.3 billion.

Taylor contends Garnett never reached out with interest in purchasing the franchise.

“Kevin never contacted me at all saying that he was interested,” Taylor said in a phone call with The Athletic. “Nor was his name listed on any of the buying groups that asked for financial information to review.”

Taylor said he has received interest from at least 10 people or families, including two former NBA players, but not from Garnett.

“I really expected that he probably would have (made a bid),” Taylor said. “He never contacted me, pursued it, nor was his name ever really listed in any group.”

Taylor remains committed to selling the franchise to a group that will keep the Wolves in Minnesota.

Collins will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.
