Carmelo Anthony said he's "at peace" with playing a lesser role for the remainder of the season to allow the team to take a longer look at its younger players.

"I see the writing on the wall. I see what it is," Anthony said late Wednesday night. "I see what they're trying to do and it's just me accepting that. That's what puts me at peace. Just knowing and understanding how things work. I'm at peace with that."

The New York Knicks were eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday.

"I don't think me going out there, trying to score 30 and 40 every night and playing that way is going to help them out at this point. I think it's more about getting that experience, and letting them go out there and play through that right now," Anthony said after failing to score in double figures for just the third time all season. "It's challenging, but I think it's for the greater good for everybody on this team."

The Knicks are expected to revisit a trade involving Anthony this offseason but he also owns a full no-trade clause.

The NBA's independent doctor has decided Joakim Noah is healthy enough to play following his knee surgery.

Noah will immediately begin serving his 20-game suspension over the final eight games of the current season. Noah will then miss the first 12 games of the 17-18 season.

Noah received a 20-game suspension for violating the NBA's anti-drug program.

Joakim Noah is attempting to be medically cleared to return from his left knee surgery in order to begin his 20-game suspension this season. 

Noah was cleared to return to practice on Monday by New York Knicks' doctors but the NBA has yet to determine if they'll clear him to play, which would then officially start his suspension.

“Right now, it’s just starting my suspension as soon as possible,” Noah said. “And moving on from this.”

Noah made a mistake in taking an over-the-counter supplement while recovering from one of his many injuries. It was that supplement that apparently resulted in the positive test, and Noah told reporters that it was not provided to him by the Knicks.

“I tried to take a supplement to help me with everything that I was going through,” said Noah. “I’ve gone through a lot of injuries, and I tried to take something to help me and it backfired. So I know it didn’t come from a bad place. I was working with the league on this for a while.

“I think that I got punished for 20 games is severe. But it is what it is, and I’ve got to bounce back.”

Noah admitted he made a mistake in taking the banned substance.

"I made a mistake. It was a tough year for me, for this team," Noah said after returning to practice Tuesday. "... I let a lot of people down. It was a mistake. And I gotta learn from it and bounce back. This is a tough moment and I'm going to learn from it."

Joakim Noah has been suspended 20 games for violating the NBA's anti-drug program.

Noah tested positive for an over-the-counter supplement that is prohibited under the outgoing Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Noah hadn’t “knowingly or willingly” violated the policy and cooperated fully with the league’s probe, league sources said.

Noah's suspension will begin once he's cleared to play after undergoing surgery on his left knee on Feb. 27th.

Derrick Rose will prioritize winning over money when he hits free agency for the first time in his career this offseason. Rose was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the New York Knicks last offseason.

"Not even thinking money. I've got more than enough money saved. If I stopped playing basketball now, I'll be all right," Rose told reporters in Utah on Wednesday night. "I want to win. I want to be happy and feel at peace with myself wherever I'm at. But being at the negotiating table, you never know. I'm not going to negotiate with people where money is the No. 1 thing I'm asking for. I want to win."

Rose is averaging 17.8 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 32 minutes per game for New York.

The Knicks haven't ruled out potentially re-signing Rose. Rose has talked about being uncomfortable in the Knicks' triangle offense several times over the course of the season. 

Asked on Wednesday whether he can fit in the triangle, Rose said, "I'd be fine." He added: "I'm just confident in any offense."

Rose will take an open approach to free agency.

"It's a part of free agency to see about the other teams out there, whoever is out there, whoever is interested. At least give them a chance and go from there.

"This will be the first time I'll be a free agent. I don't know how that process goes," he added. "After the season, me, my agent, my brothers, family will have to talk about it. Of course I want to be here, just being in this environment, being in New York, being at the Garden every other night -- it's a blessing. But, again, I have to really talk it over with my agent and my brothers."

Carmelo Anthony indicated he was liking the up-tempo “early offense’’ that Jeff Hornacek carried with him from the Phoenix Suns to the New York Knicks.

Hornacek reemphasized the triangle in the week leading into the All-Star break.

Anthony now says it was “hard to readjust a whole system on the fly.”

Hornacek recently said the Knicks will exclusively run the triangle next season.

“I don’t even want to talk to that or next training camp,’’ said Anthony. “It’s too much. I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t want to talk about next training camp and what’s going to happen next year. That’s hard for me personally to think about that. We still have these games to deal with, and it’s hard to look toward next season.’’

Anthony suggested he liked the Hornacek way when the Knicks were more competitive earlier in the season.

“I thought earlier we were playing faster and more free-flow throughout the course of the game,’’ Anthony said. “We kind of slowed down, started settling it down. Not as fast. The pace slowed down for us — something we had to make an adjustment on the fly with limited practice time, in the course of a game. Once you get into the season, it’s hard to readjust a whole system.’’

Jeff Hornacek expects the New York Knicks to fully run the triangle offense next season.

Hornacek is unsure if the core of Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis can become a playoff team unless they embrace the triangle fully.

"Obviously if we go into it like we did this year -- no," Hornacek told reporters in Utah when asked if the Rose-Anthony-Porzingis trio can be a playoff team. "If we turn around and have a different way we start, go right at however we're going to run it next year, if it's full triangle, it's possible. You never know how these things will fit. Maybe a second year is helpful for us."

Hornacek said it was a mistake to try to blend systems.

"Do we have the right fit of guys running the system?" Hornacek said. "If we think that we can somehow -- with a fresh start of training camp and go to it right off the bat, if that helps us and Phil [Jackson] and Steve [Mills] -- we think maybe the same guys on this team could have a different outlook on it, then we'll stay the same. If not, they'll look at other guys."

The New York Knicks will miss the playoffs for the third straight season, which has made Carmelo Anthony grow reflective over his future.

“Nah, don’t start,’’ Anthony said when asked if he envisions making L.A. his workplace. “I haven’t thought about it. There was an opportunity during the deadline. There was always talk the last couple of seasons being connected to Clippers or Lakers. Somehow always been connected. First it was the Lakers. Now it’s the Clippers situation. I try not to think about it — especially now when I’m still playing with the New York Knicks and got to prepare to play against these guys.’’

The Knicks have been in Los Angeles since Saturday ahead of Monday's game.

“Sometimes you need to get in a new environment and feel a different type of energy and vibe,’’ Anthony said.

Anthony was referring to his team, but he probably could have been talking about his career, too.

“Over the years, I’ve grown to like it,’’ Anthony said. “I think as you get older, you start looking for places you can relax and enjoy and be good over the years. L.A. has been a place where my family feels comfortable at. We’ve been here for seven years now.’’

Anthony was asked about the Knicks not being a playoff team this season.

“I’ve come to grips with that,’’ Anthony said. “I had times to think about that over how many weeks it’s been, trying to utilize time to clear my mind and be at peace with it — our situation.”

Asked if he thinks if it will ever happen in L.A., Anthony said: “Honestly I think about it a lot. I try to put everything in perspective. I think about it all. I think about here. I think about it. The postseason. My teammates. I think about everything. I think about it a lot and put everything in perspective and hear other people’s take on it. At the end of the day, it’s on me.’’

The New York Knicks are committed to trading away Carmelo Anthony in the summer.

The Knicks explored trade scenarios involving Anthony leading up to the deadline.

Anthony has a full no-trade clause, which means he would have to formally approve any trade.

The Los Angeles Clippers privately expressed confidence they could trade for Anthony in the offseason. 

With the Knicks struggling over the past few seasons, they would like to rebuild entirely around Kristaps Porzingis.

The New York Knicks don't plan on firing Jeff Hornacek this offseason.

The Knicks have struggled this season and Phil Jackson reversed Hornacek's offense to re-emphasize the triangle.

The Knicks have had four head coaches during Jackson's three-year tenure.

Even Kristaps Porzingis classified the offense’s travails as causing “confusion.’’

Sources insist Derek Fisher was dismissed because of his lack of communication with Jackson, failing to respond to Jackson’s emails promptly and a passive-aggressive resistance to Jackson being involved with coaching aspects. Hornacek, however, has maintained a strong rapport with both Jackson and Kurt Rambis.

“Phil can’t afford to fire [Hornacek] and bring in a new coach,’’ said another NBA source, who has spoken to Jackson.

Hornacek is not worried about being the fall guy for the Knicks' issues.

“No, we’re all going through this,’’ Hornacek said after Wednesday’s practice. “Every single guy, every single coach, every part of management is to blame. We’re all in it together. There’s no other talk of anything. We’re trying to grow from this.’’
