Jent To Interview For Magic Position

Apr 26, 2005 12:37 AM

Chris Jent is set to formally interview for the Orlando Magic head coaching position, which he filled for the fired Johnny Davis during the final weeks of the season.

"I love to walk in John's office and have him say, 'You are the head coach of the Magic,' but I just don't see that happening," Jent said. "I think they will take their time."

The Magic were 5-13 under Jent, who could not turnaround the slide that Orlando was on during the final months of the Davis era.

Christie Sees Difficulty In Playing For Magic Next Season

Apr 20, 2005 9:02 PM

After having surgery two weeks ago to remove bone spurs and fragments, Doug Christie stressed that it would be ?extremely difficult? to return to play for the Magic next season.

Magic general manager John Weisbrod is now planning on flying to Seattle to meet with Dough Christie and discuss his latest comments.

"I think I understand the kid well enough to know why he is feeling this way," Weisbrod said. "He was in a situation in Sacramento where everything was positive and it was an adjustment for him to come here. To see the way he's been depicted at times I'm sure is upsetting to him. The communication breakdown is that he thinks the organization, or me personally, play a role in how he's depicted."

Apr 16, 2005 1:24 AM

Rookies Ben Gordon and Andres Nocioni each scored 17 points to lead Chicago to a 117-77 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday night as the Bulls had their largest victory margin of the season.

"I don't think it was bothering us, to tell you the truth. Not to down play the situation, but I felt like everybody was playing for him, regardless, and I think everybody will continue to do that, especially myself," Tyson Chandler said.

"I just think it was about us being mature enough and coming out realizing how important this game was," said Antonio Davis. "We have to establish our momentum. We have another one (Atlanta) tomorrow."

Laimbeer Interested In Orlando Position

Apr 12, 2005 2:20 PM

Former Detroit center Bill Laimbeer has long been a name mentioned as a coach or GM that Dan Gilbert would be interested in hiring to help lead the Cavaliers; Now the Orlando Magic can be added to Laimbeer's list of potential suitors.

FloridaToday.com is reporting that Laimbeer is interested in the position in Orlando, with talented young players like Dwight Howard and Steve Francis already there.

"People expect me to be the same as I was as a player, but I'm almost exactly opposite," Laimbeer said. "I don't yell, scream or holler in any shape or form and I hate coaches that do that. I demand of my players, but my relationships with players are good."

Grant Hill's All-Star Season May Conclude On The IL

Apr 7, 2005 2:39 AM

Grant Hill, the NBA?s most frequently injured forward, is likely out for the season after undergoing a bone scan on his bruised left shin on Wednesday.

Hill suffered the injury on Feb. 26 against the Miami Heat when he was accidentally kicked.  Hill says there is irritation and a knot in the area where there is a metal plate connecting his shin and ankle.

"I'm going to be careful. One thing that I've learned is being careful," said Hill, who last played on Friday, but had to sit out the fourth quarter of the loss to Washington because of soreness in his shin. "I still don't want to rule out the possibility of what can happen the next two weeks, but there is also a strong possibility that (not playing) could happen."

New Magic coach Chris Jent is not optimistic about Hill returning for the playoffs, if they managed to qualify.

"I wouldn't expect him to play again if he continues to have the same kind of pain that he's had lately," Jent said. "The risk is just too great that this injury could become even worse."

With Hill down, the NBA?s feel good comeback story ends and the Knicks? Allen Houston no longer has anybody to idolize on his quest to get healthy.
