Sasha Vezenkov Not Ready To Decide On Kings/NBA Yet

May 28, 2023 1:00 PM

Sasha Vezenkov is wrapping up a great season with Olympiacos in Greece. That productive year has many thinking Vezenkov is ready to make the leap to the NBA.

The EuroLeague MVP said he's not ready to make that decision just yet.

"I'm only thinking about how to become the champions of Greece and what will be the right decision for me at this moment," Vezenkov said. "Nobody knows what will happen in a few years, so I will decide how to continue when the time comes."

The Sacramento Kings retain Vezenkov's NBA rights. The Kings acquired Vezenkov's draft rights at the 2022 NBA Draft, when they sent a draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers that later became Isaiah Mobley.

Sasha Vezenkov Seriously Considering Signing With Kings For 23-24 Season

May 12, 2023 4:09 PM

Sasha Vezenkov is seriously considering signing with the Sacramento Kings, a source told Marc Stein.

The Kings own the NBA draft rights to Vezenkov, who was a second round pick in 2017 by the Brooklyn Nets. Vezenkov's draft rights were traded from the Nets to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2021 and from the Cavaliers to the Kings last year.

In 61 games this season with Olympiacos, Vezenkov is averaging 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

One insider described Vezenkov joining the Kings this offseason as "inevitable."

"He shoots the 3-ball," Mike Brown told a group of Greek reporters when watching him play this week. "He’s got size. He’s got toughness. He rebounds. All those things are exciting with the way we play the game of basketball.”

Kings' Monte McNair Named NBA Executive Of The Year

May 3, 2023 12:01 PM

Monte McNair of the Sacramento Kings has been named the NBA Basketball Executive of the Year. McNair received 16 first place votes, while Koby Altman of the Cleveland Cavaliers received seven. Justin Zanik, Calvin Booth and Brad Stevens rounded out the top-5.

The Kings broke their playoff drought and finished the regular season as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.

Behind the play of De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, the Kings had the best offensive rating in the NBA.

Sacramento's trade of Tyrese Haliburton for Sabonis was controversial, but it balanced out their roster and allowed Fox to emerge as one of the best guards in the NBA. The Kings also added Keegan Murray at the draft, Malik Monk in free agency and Kevin Huerter via trade.

The Kings hired McNair in 2020.
