Sergio Scariolo: Coaching Raptors Wasn't Too Different From '1,500 Games I've Coached Before'

Feb 27, 2021 1:25 PM

Sergio Scariolo said coaching the Toronto Raptors' 122-111 win over the Houston Rockets didn't feel too different from other games he's coached before.

Scariolo was named the Raptors' head coach after Nick Nurse and five other coaches sat out due to health and safety protocols.

"So it was kind of reacting every time to something different, but at the end of the day, we got the W, so who cares," said Scariolo after the game.

Scariolo has won multiple FIBA titles as head coach of Spain, also leading the team to medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

"Honestly, it didn't feel too much difference with the 1,500 games I've coached before. I felt that we were prepared getting into the game because everybody made his contribution and this is what it takes in a team sport like basketball," said Scariolo.

The coach, who added that he spoke with Nurse before the game, didn't know how long he would remain as the head coach.

Kyle Lowry's Agent Denies Sixers Trade Rumors

Feb 26, 2021 1:17 AM

Kyle Lowry's agent Mark Bartelstein denied reports that his client was looking for a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

“That’s just not true…I got on the phone with Masai (Ujiri, Raptors president) and Bobby (Webster, Raptors GM) and let them know that [report] certainly wasn’t coming from us," said Bartelstein on Sirius XM NBA Radio (h/t Pro Basketball Talk).

There were reports from earlier in the day linking Lowry to the Sixers, Heat, and Clippers.

Lowry is also reportedly looking for a two-year deal worth $60 million in free agency.

76ers, Heat, Clippers Interested In Trading For Kyle Lowry

Feb 25, 2021 10:01 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers have interest in trading Kyle Lowry, sources tell Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

A source says Lowry's preference is to play for the 76ers and that they might be able to get a deal done with the Toronto Raptors.

Lowry is on an expiring contract after nine seasons with the Raptors.

According to a source, the Raptors would like to reward Lowry for his years of service with the team by giving him an opportunity to compete for another title.

Lowry is a native of Philadelphia and would give the 76ers a perimeter playmaker.

The Clippers, meanwhile, would allow Lowry to reunite with Kawhi Leonard and Serge Ibaka. Lowry is also close friends with Ty Lue and Chauncey Billups.

In free agency, Lowry will seek a contract of $60 million over two years.

Timberwolves Fire Ryan Saunders; Finalizing Deal To Hire Chris Finch

Feb 22, 2021 8:00 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves are finalizing a multiyear deal to hire Toronto Raptors assistant Chris Finch as the franchise's new head coach, replacing Ryan Saunders, sources told ESPN.

The team announced that Saunders had been fired following a 103-99 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday night, which dropped them to a league-worst record of 7-24.

Saunders was 43-94 as coach of the Timberwolves in his two-plus seasons.

Gersson Rosas didn't want the Wolves to spend the remainder of the season with an interim head coach. There has been no hiring of an assistant coach to a head coaching job with another team since Lionel Hollins was hired by the Memphis Grizzlies from the Milwaukee Bucks in 2009.

Toronto hired Finch in the offseason as Nick Nurse's top assistant but wouldn't stand in his way to accept a head-coaching job during the season.

Domestic Violence Charges Against Terence Davis Dropped

Feb 19, 2021 1:20 PM

Terence Davis has had charges from a domestic violence case dropped.

Davis was arrested in October after officials say he punched his ex-girlfriend in the face during an argument at the Beekman Tower in New York.

Davis was initially charged with seven criminal counts -- aggravated harassment, assault, criminal mischief, attempted assault, harassment, endangering the welfare of a child and another assault.

The District Attorney's Office has moved to dismiss all counts relating to assaultive conduct, leaving "endangering the welfare of a child" and "criminal mischief" still active.

The District Attorney's Office agreed to drop the remaining two charges if Davis pays $1,000 in restitution and has no other offenses between now and February 2022.

The Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks would have interest in Drummond if he is bought out.
