Brandon Jennings has agreed to sign with the Washington Wizards for the remainder of the season.

The New York Knicks released Jennings on Monday after he requested an out in order to play for a contending team.

Jennings needs to clear waivers before he can sign with the Wizards.

The team has 15 players on the roster and will need to waive a player to make room for Jennings.

Jennings averaged 8.6 points and 4.9 assists while shooting 34 percent from 3-point range. 

The Washington Wizards are interested in signing Brandon Jennings.

Jennings was waived by the New York Knicks on Monday.

Stan Van Gundy suggested Jennings was going to sign with the Charlotte Hornets but the team was already committed to Briante Weber. The Golden State Warriors also had interest in Jennings but they were similarly committed to Jose Calderon.

The Wizards are currently playing Trey Burke as John Wall's backup at point guard.

The Brooklyn Nets haver agreed to trade Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton and a 2017 first round pick.

The Wizards traded their 2016 first round pick last year for Markieff Morris.

Brooklyn will swap their own first round pick this year with the Boston Celtics, which will likely give them two first rounders in the twenties.

Bogdanovic will be a restricted free agent in the 2017 offseason. Bogdanovic is averaging 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 35.7 percent on three-pointers.

The Washington Wizards have interest in trading for Shabazz Muhammad of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Muhammad will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

The Wizards appear willing to part with a first round pick in this year's draft to add depth to their roster. 

After a slow start to the season under Scott Brooks, the Wizards are among the leaders in the Eastern Conference.

The Washington Wizards have "shown an inclination" to trade a first round pick to acquire a veteran player that could even be a rental for their playoff push. The Wizards could even trade a pick in this year's deep draft.

Washington's front office has acknowledged they have a top-heavy roster and need depth. After a slow start to the season under Scott Brooks, the Wizards have surged in the new year.

Last February, the Wizards traded a first round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Markieff Morris.

Scott Brooks and Steve Kerr have been named the NBA's Coaches of the Month for January.

The Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards had the best records in January at 12-2 and 12-4 respectively.

Washington was a perfect 7-0 at home during the month and posted the most overall wins in the Eastern Conference.
