Joel Embiid Pushed For Bradley Beal Trade Before 76ers Dealt For James Harden

Feb 25, 2022 11:10 AM

Joel Embiid was pushing the Philadelphia 76ers to trade for Bradley Beal ahead of their deal for James Harden, according to sources that spoke with Bill Simmons.

"This is what I heard," said Simmons on his podcast. "I've had pretty good intel throughout this whole thing. This is what I was hearing in the moment. That Embiid really wanted Bradley Beal and was pushing really hard for it. And was talking to him all the time. And was pushing, pushing, pushing. And part of the reason the trade stuff took so long was because there was this Sixers' side that wanted Harden. Obviously Daryl [Morey], because Harden is his guy. But Embiid really wanted Beal because he felt like he was a better fit. And was pushing, pushing, pushing.

"Then Beal gets hurt. But then Embiid is still pushing. 'No, no, no, Beal, Beal, Beal.' Still working on him. And then Beal's like, 'I'm out.' And he gets surgery. And then that's how we end up with the Harden situation."

The announcement that Beal would undergo season-ending surgery came two days before the trade deadline.

While Zach Lowe was a guest on the podcast with Simmons and didn't interject, he previously reported that there is a theory going around the NBA that Harden could take less money in hopes of Philadelphia signing a third star this offseason. Beal projects to be the highest profile free agent this summer.

Kristaps Porzingis Likely To Make Washington Debut In First Game After All-Star Break

Feb 18, 2022 8:47 AM

Kristaps Porzingis has been recovering from knee soreness since before the Washington Wizards traded for him at last week's trade deadline. But it looks like the big man will debut for Washington in the first game after the All-Star break.

Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. said that's how he's approaching things with Porzingis.

"I anticipate he will (play on February 25), but once again we'll just have to see."

In 60 total games between Washington and the Dallas Mavericks this season, Porzingis has missed 26 of them. He's continually battled regular knee soreness since tearing his ACL in 2018.

Davis Bertans Says Wizards Were 'Always Bickering About Minutes, Roles'

Feb 14, 2022 8:37 AM

In his first media appearance as a member of the Dallas Mavericks, Davis Bertans was asked about what went wrong with his former club the Washington Wizards. The shooting specialist didn't hold back about the problems in Washington.

"It's tough to have team chemistry when every single day, the team is basically fighting with each other about 'I want to get more minutes' and 'I want a bigger role.'" Bertans said. "That was probably the biggest part of struggles for most guys during the season. That kinda early on that doesn't show up because everybody's trying to figure out what's going on. Once it starts going downhill, it's really hard to turn around and start going up again."

Bertans joined former teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in calling out locker room issues with the Wizards. Caldwell-Pope and since-traded Montrezl Harrell had to be separated during a game earlier this season when arguing over a play.

Kristaps Porzingis: Excited To Be In DC

Feb 12, 2022 3:34 PM

Kristaps Porzingis said he was surprised by the trade that sent him from the Dallas Mavericks to the Washington Wizards. But that after that initial shock wore off, he's happy to be with the Wizards.

"At first, it's always a surprise. You're never prepared for it, and it's a roller coaster of emotions. ... A lot of good energy, a lot of excitement. ... I'm excited to be here in D.C."

When asked what he has to prove with Washington, Porzingis said staying healthy is at the top of the list.

"One is staying on the floor consistently. Now that I'm healthy and I'm moving well, that's the thing I have to prove."

Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard said that Bradley Beal is excited about the team's new acquisitions. Sheppard said that he sees Beal and Porzingis as his team's version of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

Bradley Beal To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery On Left Wrist

Feb 8, 2022 5:22 PM

Bradley Beal plans to undergo season-ending surgery on his left wrist.

Beal has a torn scapholunate ligament in the wrist.

Beal will enter the offseason as a free agent and has been uncertain on his future with the Washington Wizards, according to various reports. Beal can sign a five-year, $240 million deal with the Wizards or a four-year, $180 million deal with a rival team.

“Despite the last 10 days of getting intensive treatment and rehab on my wrist, it became clear that I would not be able to compete to my standards or to the level that our team and our fans deserve,” said Beal. “I’m disappointed to have my season end this way, but we all agreed that this was the best decision. I look forward to coming back at 100 percent and continuing to lead this team as we work together to build toward the future.”

Wizards, Kings, Blazers Show Most Interest In Trading For Jerami Grant

Feb 7, 2022 10:33 AM

While James Harden and Ben Simmons appear a little more likely to be traded than they were a few weeks ago, Jerami Grant could still become the biggest name actually moved at the deadline.

Grant is in Year 2 of a three-year contract with the Detroit Pistons and is seeking an extension.

The Pistons aren't "handcuffed" to Grant at the deadline, sources tell James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. Grant also is not assured of being traded.

The Washington Wizards, Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers have shown the most interest in trading for Grant, sources tell The Athletic. The Brooklyn Nets have also expressed interest, but a deal with them is not considered likely.

Bradley Beal Trade 'Remains Highly Unlikely' Unless He Directly Requests It

Feb 4, 2022 6:19 PM

While the future of Bradley Beal with the Washington Wizards appears less certain than it did previously, it is not likely to lead to a trade by the deadline.

"As for the most coveted Wizard, one well-placed source reiterated this week that Bradley Beal remains highly unlikely to be seriously discussed in trade talks in the next six days — unless Beal goes to management and requests to be traded," writes Marc Stein at Substac. "That, I’m told, hasn't happened yet."

Beal can sign a five-year, $241 million deal with the Wizards in the offseason, or a four-year, $180 million deal elsewhere.

Beal's impending free agency makes any offer Washington could receive less than what it would be otherwise.
