Cavs Could Start Kevin Love At Center

Sep 30, 2017 11:10 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are giving strong consideration to starting Kevin Love at center with Tristan Thompson coming off the bench.

Cleveland has been using Jae Crowder at the 4 with the starters during training camp.

"Tristan is a very dynamic roller, guy that plays a lot as a dunker," Love said. "Myself, I have to play inside-out, mix that up and really take what the defense gives you. But it gives us a different look. I mentioned different dynamics out there on the floor with different lineups, and we're so deep now that [Dwyane Wade] and a lot of guys similar in size at that 4-5 spot, we're going to see guys playing interchangeable. It's not just going to be on the defensive end in that regard."

With Kyrie Irving's trade to the Cavaliers, the team will be relying upon Love's offense more this season.

Carmelo Anthony Expected To Join Paul George With Cavs On Draft Night

Sep 28, 2017 12:07 PM

Carmelo Anthony believed he was on the verge of being traded by the New York Knicks to the Cleveland Cavaliers on draft night. In the trade scenario discussed, the Cavaliers would have also acquired Paul George.

The Indiana Pacers nearly traded George to the Cavaliers in a three-way involving the Denver Nuggets, but the deal fell through. The Pacers ultimately traded George to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"Me and PG have a very close friendship," said Anthony. "Actually, it was funny because me and PG was supposed to be in Cleveland on draft night. We were communicating about that. The deal was actually done and it got called off on draft night, so me and PG stayed connected throughout the course of the season."

Cleveland never moved from their offer of Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye.

The Knicks ultimately traded Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Cavaliers were able to agree upon terms with Dwyane Wade after he was bought out by the Chicago Bulls.

"Obviously there was a lot of speculation throughout the summer with Melo and possibly him joining us and obviously we see how that panned out," LeBron James said. "We're blessed as a franchise to be able to have a player the caliber of D-Wade join us. It's exciting."

Tyronn Lue Nicknames LeBron James 'Benjamin Button'

Sep 27, 2017 10:34 AM

Even though LeBron James is nearing his 33rd birthday, Tyronn Lue believes he is aging in reverse.

"He seems younger," Lue said following Cleveland's first practice of the season Tuesday. "I call him 'Benjamin Button.' He seems younger, he just seems happier with the game right now, just having fun. Enjoying the game. Hopefully it carries on for 82 games and into the playoffs."

James is attempting to reach The Finals for his eighth straight season.

"I'm ready to go," James said at the Cavs' media day on Monday. "This is one of the best offseasons I've had in my career. And I'm extremely excited. What got me excited about the game of basketball is actually being with my sons this summer and watching their AAU games and you probably saw a couple videos where I was not a nice dad during the course of those games. But the 'Basketball Jones' and the basketball fever was put back in me early in July, and it's crazy to say that my 12-year-old and my 10-year-old can inspire me and they did, and their teammates inspired me to get in the gym. I always get better throughout the offseason. I always work on my game or work on my body throughout the offseason."

Lue joked he will rely on James even more heavily this season.

"I'll probably add a minute to his minutes," Lue said with a smile. "So, 38 and a half (minutes per game). ... We'll see."
