Cavaliers Hold 'Air-It-Out' Meeting Before Practice

Oct 31, 2017 7:18 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a 3-4 record to begin the season and held an air-it-out meeting before Tuesday's practice.

"Off the court we've got great chemistry, great bond," said Tyronn Lue. "Just, on the court we just got to be better. Like, talking, communicating, enjoying the game together. Having fun. ... Right now guys are not having fun."

"Naturally, the slow start that we've had prompted us to just all get on the same page and kind of figure out what we need to do," said Kevin Love. "I feel like we can get in better shape, that's going to help us on the defensive end. Communication, energy and just getting the new guys to (become) adjusted, well adjusted and on the floor, more time together. So time will tell how it's going to play out, but we have a lot of really good positive energy from today, so, it was a great practice."

Cleveland is trying to incorporate eight new players.

LeBron James: I'm Fine, Cavaliers Fine

Oct 29, 2017 9:26 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to 3-3 with a 123-101 loss at the New Orleans Pelicans.

"I'm fine. I'm fine and we're fine," James said.

James sat out the fourth quarter after the Pelicans pulled away from the Cavaliers.

"It's a long season," James said. "It's way too (early to judge). We're out two starting point guards. So, I'm not overlooking what's going on. I wasn't overlooking if we had success, I'm not going to overlook if we had a couple games off. I'm not getting too high and getting too low. I'm an even-keel guy. I understand this is a long process. We played some different (lineups), like I told you guys, we played some crazy lineups that we haven't even played in practice. So, we'll continue to get better.

"There's going to be some games where we don't look as good unfortunately but that's all part of the process and we just have to be patient with it until we can become full strength and we got lineups and things out there that we all can become comfortable with."

Cleveland has the most expensive payroll in the NBA at $137 million and also the league's oldest roster.

LeBron James Changed Shooting Motion Following Elbow Injury

Oct 25, 2017 12:34 PM

LeBron James' right elbow mysteriously swelled to the size of a tennis ball a few weeks after the 2017 NBA Finals.

X-rays came back negative and an MRI showed no structural damage.

The injury was nothing like the one that plagued him during the 2010 playoffs.

"That was different. That was so different. I would get to here," James said forming his arm in an L-shape, "and get right here and it would just lock."

James isn't sure how the injury happened.

"I don't know where it came from," James said. "I was working out in L.A. in late June and my wife was like, 'What's wrong with your elbow?' I'm like, 'What?' ... The weirdest s---."

James changed his shooting motion to minimize the discomfort in his elbow.

Cavs Voted 9-1 To Select Anthony Bennett With Chris Grant Lone Nay

Oct 25, 2017 10:52 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the lottery in 2013, which was a draft without an obvious No. 1 overall prospect.

Chris Grant was high on Ben McLemore, but he wasn't a clear No. 1 prospect the way Kyrie Irving had been for the Cavaliers in 2011. Grant was close to a deal with the Sacramento Kings for the seventh pick to select McLemore, but the Kings backed out when McLemore fell to them.

The Cavs' front office voted 9-1 in favor of Anthony Bennett with Grant being the lone vote against taking him. Bennett potentially could have fallen out of the top-10 had he not been selected first by Cleveland.

Victor Oladipo was Dan Gilbert's favorite prospect in the draft.

“The issue with Anthony was, and we had no way of knowing it at the time, the kid had no desire to overcome adversity whatsoever. As soon as it was hard, he was out,” (David) Griffin said. “His whole life, he rolled out of bed bigger, better, and more talented than everybody else. As soon as it was hard, it was over. And I was the one on campus at UNLV. I’m the one who got sold the bill of goods and I bought it hook, line, and sinker. You fuck up sometimes. But I feel bad Chris took it for that, because Chris was the one guy who wasn’t sure.”

Bulls Were Enticed By Idea Of Remaining Relevant By Signing Dwyane Wade

Oct 24, 2017 1:53 PM

When the Chicago Bulls were trying to decide whether to trade away Jimmy Butler and begin a rebuild during the 2016 offseason, they were enticed with the idea of remaining relevant by signing Dwyane Wade.

Sources say the Bulls' front office was shocked by how Wade suddenly became available as his relationship with the Miami Heat deteriorated.

Wade signed a two-year deal with a player option worth nearly $24 million in Year 2.

Kevin Love Was Initially Frustrated With Move To Center

Oct 20, 2017 2:03 PM

Kevin Love was initially unhappy with the Cleveland Cavaliers' decision to move him from power forward to center with the starting lineup.

During the first three seasons of Love's career with the Cavaliers, he started at power forward with Tristan Thompson at center.

"It's going to be tough for fives to move around with him," Lue said recently. "When we run pick-and-rolls, they can't really get out and show. He's going to have a lot of open shots and we know Kevin, he can make shots.

"When we play big and Tristan goes to the 5 and he goes to the 4, we're back to our normal positioning. We're going to try it out and see how it works. He was frustrated at first, but now he's enjoying it."

Love hasn't been a full time center since early in his career with the Wolves.

"It's been a little bit of a change for me," Love admitted. "I still find myself spacing a little bit wanting to roll a little bit more and on the defensive end just playing the primary big on their team the whole time on the defensive end. It's been a little bit different figuring things out on that end, but it comes with the growth I'm talking about. We need to do that and hopefully be a machine when things start clicking."

Multiple Factors Led Cavaliers To Scrap Kyrie Irving Tribute Video

Oct 19, 2017 10:22 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers decided not to air a tribute video for Kyrie Irving during his return to Quicken Loans Arena on opening night. The Boston Celtics will only make one trip to Cleveland during the regular season.

Several Cavaliers' players were upset by the idea of showing a tribute to Irving during the game.

Team spokesman Tad Carper said at halftime Tuesday they weren’t going to air the tribute video because they couldn’t find a time that felt appropriate, especially following the injury to Gordon Hayward.

Dan Gilbert was also involved in the decision not to air the video.

Irving was booed by the Cleveland fans throughout the game.

Kyrie Irving's Father Had Issues With Cavaliers During Most Of Tenure

Oct 19, 2017 5:38 PM

Drederick Irving, father of Kyrie Irving, refused to give Randy Mims five one day while leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers' locker room. Mims is an employee of the Cavaliers and a lifelong friend of LeBron James.

Irving said his father believed they shouldn’t be “fraternizing with the enemy” when he was asked about the incident by James and whether there was something wrong.

"I could care less. You can write it," Irving told The Athletic when asked about the incident this week. "It's on you, kid. It's your validity, baby. It’s just my dad. It’s not me."

Drederick was often upset with the organization throughout Irving’s six years with the Cavaliers. There were concerns about the roster surrounding Irving before James' return, as well as coaching decisions and how the Cavaliers handled his health.
