The Dallas Mavericks plan to start Dwight Powell at center with Kristaps Porzingis at power forward.
Porzingis has admitted in the past that he can be more effective at center than at power forward.
The Mavericks replaced Rick Carlisle with Jason Kidd as head coach in the offseason.
Kristaps Porzingis is entering his third full season with the Dallas Mavericks and is hoping for a fresh start under Jason Kidd after the team parted ways with Rick Carlisle.
"I'll say this: at the end of last year Porzingis wanted to be traded," said Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective Podcast. "My understanding is he feels like he has a fresh start with the coaching change. He's had the healthy offseason. He's been able to work, not just on his game but on his body some more. That he's coming back with a refreshed feel.
"At the end of last year, he wasn't going to come out and ask for a trade. He's smart enough to understand the optics."
"He's already done that once," replied Brian Windhorst referring to the departure of Porzingis from the New York Knicks in 2019.
"But at the end of last year when he stood in the corner and checked the wind for an entire playoff series, he was hoping to be traded," added MacMahon. "From what I gather, he's coming back optimistic now."
Porzingis has three seasons and over $100 million remaining on his contract.
The Dallas Mavericks have parted ways with Haralabos “Bob” Voulgaris.
Voulgaris was hired in 2018 as director of quantitative research and development. The contract of Voulgaris expired and was not renewed by Nico Harrison.
“Just for clarification I asked to be let out of my contract, was denied. Since then I’ve been waiting for my contract to expire,” Voulgaris wrote.
A report from The Athletic previously detailed how Voulgaris had increased his influence within the Mavericks. Within days of the report, the Mavericks parted ways with Donnie Nelson.
J.J. Redick announced his retirement from basketball on his The Old Man and the Three show. Redick played in the NBA for 15 seasons.
Redick spent the first six-and-a-half years of his career with the Orlando Magic. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2012-13 season. Redick then played the next four years with the LA Clippers, before moving on to the Philadelphia 76ers for two seasons. Redick then signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019. He was traded to the Dallas Mavericks at the 2021 trade deadline.
Over 940 regular season games, Redick averaged 12.8 points per game. Redick was one of the NBA's most-feared shooters, as he shot 41.5% from behind the arc for his career. In the regular season, Redick buried 1,950 three-pointers.
During his career, Redick's teams made the playoffs in 14-of-15 seasons. In 110 postseason games, Redick averaged 10.9 points and shot 37.1% on three-pointers.
The Dallas Mavericks have signed Frank Ntilikina.
Ntilikina spent the past four seasons with the New York Knicks.
The Mavericks were linked to Ntilikina ahead of the 2017 draft.

Isaiah Thomas, Lance Stephenson and Monta Ellis worked out for the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
Thomas appeared to be in great shape as he works to make a return to the NBA. Thomas played briefly last season for the New Orleans Pelicans.
Stephenson last played in the NBA in 18-19 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Ellis hasn't played in the NBA since the 16-17 season with the Indiana Pacers.
JaQuori McLaughlin has agreed to a Two-Way contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
McLaughlin played in Summer League for the Golden State Warriors, averaging 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 24.2 minutes over five games.
McLaughlin went undrafted out of UC Santa Barbara in 2021.
