Joel Embiid Has 'Very Good Likelihood' Of Returning In Regular Season

Mar 28, 2024 2:37 AM

Joel Embiid is likely to return to the Philadelphia 76ers lineup in the regular season, according to Nick Nurse.

"I think there's a very good likelihood that he will return before the play-in, playoff," said Nurse on Wednesday.

Nurse added that there is still no exact timetable for Embiid's return.

"He's on the court, as you guys know, and we still don't have a timeline for his return," added Nurse.

The Sixers are 10-16 since Embiid's injury and are currently in the play-in tournament.

Joel Embiid In 'Ramp Up' Phase Of Rehab

Mar 21, 2024 8:29 AM

Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse was cautious when asked about where Joel Embiid is at with his rehab from meniscus surgery. Nurse said Embiid is in the "ramp up" phase of his rehab, without giving a much detail on exactly where Embiid is in that phase.

"He's kind of in the ramp up phase right now. What can he handle? When can he start having contact? When can he start playing 1-on-1, 5-on-5? When can he go through a practice with contact?", Nurse said about the reigning MVP's status.

Nurse said Embiid has return to the court on a near-daily basis, but was careful to not put any sort of timeline on Embiid's return.

Embiid underwent surgery on his left lateral meniscus on February 6. The 76ers haven't put out a timeline for Embiid to return to play. Nurse has said he's hopeful that his start center will return before the playoffs start on April 20.

Sixers 'Loom As Eager' To Sign Paul George If He Becomes Free Agent

Mar 20, 2024 3:05 PM

Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers have yet to come to terms on a contract extension more than two months after Kawhi Leonard signed his. Leonard signed for $10 million less than his maximum.

Sources tell Marc Stein of The Stein Line that the Philadelphia 76ers "loom as an eager George suitor should he make it onto the open market."

The Sixers are projected to have enough cap space to sign George to his max in free agency.

The widely held assumption is that George's preference is to remain with the Clippers.

Nick Nurse 'Pretty Confident' Joel Embiid Will Return Before Playoffs

Mar 17, 2024 10:20 AM

Nick Nurse gave an update on Joel Embiid ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. Nurse was positive and upbeat about Embiid's recovery, saying doctors are "happy with the progress" the franchise's star has made.

"I think there's always stages of how these things progress," Nurse said. "Everyone wants to know 'Well how long is it going to be?" And they give a wide range because of that, because everyone heals differently. We're just trying to take it as it comes, get him healthy and get him back when he's ready to go."

When asked if he believes Embiid will be ready to go before the playoffs, Nurse was positive, but cautious in his response.

"I'm still hoping so and pretty confident, yes," Nurse said.

Joel Embiid 'Not Anywhere Close' To Returning From Meniscus Injury

Mar 12, 2024 10:52 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers were initially hopeful that Joel Embiid could return from his meniscus procedure in late March, but it now appears as though the final week of the regular season is a more realistic timeline.

"He's not anywhere close right now to coming back, but he is able to get on the court and do some light work," said Ramona Shelburne. "The hope that they have in Philly is they can stay in the mix for Joel Embiid to come back the last week or so of the season at least where he has a chance to get back to his conditioning before the playoffs."

Embiid was the MVP favorite before his injury and will be critical to Philadelphia's chances in the playoffs.
