Damian Lillard Will Not Be Fined For Postgame Remarks Critical Of Missed Goaltending Call

Feb 9, 2020 1:53 AM

The NBA will not fine Damian Lillard following his postgame actions and tweets directed at officials, league sources told Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

Lillard's comments came after officials failed to call a goaltending late in the game.

The play in question could not be reviewed as officials had to make a call in order to trigger a review.

Yahoo also reported that the Blazers were also angered at Royce O'Neale for what they deemed a "dirty play" in injuring Anfernee Simons.

Simons left the game with a concussion.

Damian Lillard Says Non-Call On Goaltending 'Cost Us A Game'

Feb 8, 2020 12:56 PM

Damian Lillard released his frustration after officials failed to call a goaltending violation on Rudy Gobert with 11 seconds left in the Portland Trail Blazers' 117-114 loss to the Utah Jazz.

The play in question occurred with the Blazers down 2 and Lillard driving to the lane.

"We get to the last play of the game, and they miss an easy call. And then they tell us that's an easy no-call, like that was obviously not a goaltend. Cost us a f---ing game, man. Cost us a game," said Lillard.

Crew chief Josh Tiven admitted that officials missed the goaltend.

"We've since looked at it via postgame video review and unfortunately saw that we missed the play, and a goaltending violation should have been called," said Tiven.

Lillard was especially frustrated with the Blazers battling for a playoff spot.

"Three referees out there, and they don't call that. I don't wanna see no report about, 'Oh, we should've called it' or none of that. They cost us the game. We in a playoff race, and they cost us the game on an easy call."

Carmelo Anthony On Damian Lillard Streak: 'I Don't Think We've Ever Seen Anything Like This'

Feb 2, 2020 12:50 PM

Damian Lillard scored 51 points in a 124-107 win over the Utah Jazz, his third 50-point performance in the last 6 games.

Lillard is the first NBA player to average 45 points and 10 assists during a 6-game span.

"I don't think we've ever seen anything like this. We've seen great basketball, we've seen guys score the basketball in different fashions, but what he's doing, we haven't seen that in a long time," said Carmelo Anthony after the game.

Lillard added that he's focusing on his decision-making as defenses play him more aggressively.

"Teams are trying to get more aggressive and make it harder for me. I'm just making the plays that I see. When I see them being aggressive, I'm not backing out. I'm going to continue being aggressive against it instead of just giving in to it. Cause a reaction -- pick out the helpside defenders and guys that are pulling over and trying to crowd the paint. Just moving the ball to where the help is coming from," said Lillard.
