Spurs Could Revisit LaMarcus Aldridge Trade Talks In Offseason

Aug 31, 2020 1:46 PM

The San Antonio Spurs could revisit LaMarcus Aldridge trade discussions this offseason.

Near the 2020 trade deadline the Spurs were rumored to have discussed Aldridge trade scenarios.

Rival executives suggest the Spurs “overplayed their hand thinking they were supposed to get some giant package for him,” one NBA executive said.

Aldridge is due to make $24 million next season before he hits free agency in 2021.

One agent suggests the Spurs could trade Aldridge back to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Carmelo Anthony said he wanted to return to the Portland Trail Blazers next season following their season-ending loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in game 5.

"In my mind, I'll be right back in the fray of things when next season comes," said Anthony following the game.

Anthony added that he feels he's found a home with the Blazers after being out of the league for over a year.

NBA 'Excited About Foundation For Play-In Game', Plans To Discuss Making It Permanent

Aug 24, 2020 2:24 PM

The Portland Trail Blazers' 126-121 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA's first-ever play-in game averaged 1.9 million viewers, which was up seven percent from the NBA on ABC seeding games.

“That is a good number,” longtime sports television executive Neal Pilson said of the Blazers-Grizzlies match-up. “It’s a good rating and a good audience. It demonstrates games that have significance – win or lose – almost in any sport, do get a larger audience than an average league game.”

“We won the day,” added NBA league executive Byron Spruell in an interview with CNBC. “To have that many million viewers watching our product and that match-up and the inaugural play-in, that was huge for us.”

The NBA plans to discuss adding the play-in model for future seasons.

“We’re excited about the foundation that has been set for the play-in and where we can go for the future,” Spruell said.

Terry Stotts: Free Throw Differential In Game 3 'Had An Impact On The Game'

Aug 23, 2020 12:33 PM

Terry Stotts said that the free throw differential between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers, particularly in the first half, had an impact in his team's 116-108 loss in game 3.

The Lakers had a 31-8 free throw advantage in the first half.

The Lakers now lead the series 2-1.

"As far as the free throw differential, particularly at halftime, I don't know if I've ever been in a game where it was that big. And certainly it had an impact on the first half, when I think the differential was 23. That had an impact on the game," said Stotts.

The Lakers shot 24 more free throws than the Blazers, making it their largest margin in a playoff game since 2008.

The Lakers went 28-of-43 from the line. The 15 misses represented the most missed free throws in a playoff win since 2015.

Damian Lillard added that the Lakers imposed their aggression on the game.

"The discrepancy in free throws is something that's out of our control. Last game, we came out, [and] they played a really physical game. They played a really aggressive game. That led to a blowout victory for them. ... When a team is living at the free throw line like they did tonight as a team, it's going to be hard to win a game against a team that's as good as they are."

Terry Stotts Says Damian Lillard Will Play In Game 3

Aug 22, 2020 12:56 AM

Terry Stotts said that Damian Lillard will play in game 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers despite his dislocated left finger, though Lillard may wear a splint on the injury.

Lillard suffered the injury in the third quarter of game 2.

"He's getting treatments today. Multiple treatments throughout the day. I believe he'll be wearing a splint, but he will play," said Stotts.

Lillard said that it was the first time he'd ever dislocated his finger.

"Dame has played through a lot of injuries. And this being the playoffs, I don't think it surprised anybody. But certainly it sets the tone for the rest of the team," added Stotts.
