The Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers are looking to retool their rosters this offseason. That has both teams reportedly looking at trading for OG Anunoby of the Toronto Raptors.

Anunoby hasn't directly expressed dissatisfaction with his role in Toronto, but executives around the league have heard he would be open to trade. Anunoby is reportedly unhappy with his role in the Raptors offense that heavily featured Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and rookie Scottie Barnes.

Utah and Toronto have been previously linked via trade rumors around Rudy Gobert. Those discussions have never yielded anything, and it's unclear if that's a direction the Raptors would want to go.

Portland is set up to be very flexible this summer. The Blazers could create over $30 million in cap space, or they can operate as an over-the-cap team and use their $20.8 million trade exception. Either way, they'd be well-positioned to add Anunoby, as they rebuild their roster around Damian Lillard.

Khem Birch has undergone arthroscopic surgery to clean up loose debris in his right knee. The procedure was performed Wednesday morning in Los Angeles by Dr. Daniel Kharrazi at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute.

Birch’s rehabilitation will take place in Toronto, with the Raptors medical team. He is expected to be ready for training camp in September.

The Toronto Raptors would express a "degree of interest" should Rudy Gobert be made available in a trade, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

Marc Stein also reported earlier this week of the Raptors' interest in a potential Gobert trade. The Mavs are also rumored to be interested should a deal arise. 

In addition, the Warriors have been linked as a possible destination for Gobert. 

Gobert is seen as a more realistic trade target than Donovan Mitchell should the Jazz decide to deal one of the two stars. 

The Los Angeles Lakers have requested permission to interview Toronto Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin for their vacant head coach position, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The 47-year-old has been in his current role under Nick Nurse since 2018.

The Lakers, looking to replace Frank Vogel, have also requested permission to interview Darvin Ham of the Bucks. 

The Toronto Raptors surpassed expectations during the 21-22 season in finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference, but they don't expect to accelerate their timeline because of it.

“I think it’s still a team of the future,” Masai Ujiri said during his end-of-season state of the union address on Tuesday. “I think we have to have patience and grow. It’s the first time Pascal (Siakam) and Fred (VanVleet) and OG (Anunoby) have been at the helm. I think they did OK. And the young guys, (it was) the first time they’re really playing.

“We still preach patience and growth here. I know with how the results came at the end of the season. I know the expectations now become day-to-day; I understand that from a fan perspective or media perspective. It’s win now. But we’re thinking (about) the long game here.”

Ujiri believes in the core of VanVleet, Siakam, Anunoby and Scottie Barnes and will give them opportunities to grow and perhaps fail.

“I think there are things we’re really going to evaluate the next few days,” Ujiri said when asked if he would be willing to hand out multiyear deals to free agents, both his own and those from other teams, in the offseason. “This is what you guys making me do this press conference right after the season (causes). If you’d waited three weeks, then I’d (have) been able to tell you what all our meetings (yielded) and all the things that we want to do. But right now, I don’t have an answer for you.”

Masai Ujiri was asked about the potential interest from the Los Angeles Lakers in interviewing Nick Nurse for their head coaching position. Nurse has been head coach of the Toronto Raptors in 2018 and has become one of the league's most highly regarded coaches.

“No team has contacted me, and I see all the stuff you see,” Ujiri said when asked whether any team had requested permission to speak to the Raptors about their head-coaching vacancies. “I dream like they dream. I want (Lionel) Messi. I want (Cristiano) Ronaldo. I want Kobe Bryant. So they can keep dreaming. I dream, too.”

Nurse signed an extension in 2020 and has said he's focused on coaching the Raptors.

The Lakers are searching for a replacement for Frank Vogel. 

Nick Nurse responded to a report that he could be a potential candidate to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers during his end-of-season availability on Monday.

"I don't know where that stuff comes from and I'm focused on coaching this team," said Nurse.

Nurse signed a multiyear extension with the Toronto Raptors in 2020 and has two seasons remaining on his deal.
