Cavaliers To Sign Denzel Valentine To Two-Year Contract

Sep 10, 2021 9:08 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are signing wing Denzel Valentine to a two-year contract. The deal will be partially guaranteed for Valentine.

Cleveland has been looking to add wing depth all season and has landed some help with Valentine. The 6'6'' wing played the first five years of his career with the Chicago Bulls. Valentine played last season after signing his qualifying offer from Chicago.

Valentine showed promise as a second-year player when he averaged 10.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He then missed the entire 2018-19 season after reconstructive surgery on his ankle. After returning in 2019-20, Valentine saw his role reduced.

With the Cavs, Valentine should compete for minutes at both small forward and shooting guard. Cleveland's primary player at those spots is second-year player Isaac Okoro. Cedi Osman is the Cavaliers other main small forward, and he's disappointed in recent seasons.

Cavaliers Sign Mitch Ballock, RJ Nembhard To Camp Deals

Sep 10, 2021 11:07 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers added two guards to their training camp roster. Mitch Ballock and R.J. Nembhard both signed non-guaranteed deals to join the Cavs for the preseason.

Ballock went undrafted out of Creighton at the 2021 NBA Draft. The 6'5'' guard was a three-year starter for the Bluejays. As a senior, Ballock averaged 9.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Overall, Ballock shot 39.8% on three-pointers in his four years at Creighton.

Nembhard also went undrafted at the 2021 NBA Draft. The TCU product started in his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, Nembhard averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. At 6'5'', Nembhard has good size for a point guard.

Both players are likely to join the Cavaliers G-League affiliate, the Charge, following the preseason.

The Cavs roster now stands at 19 players.

Cavaliers Agree To Two-Year Deal With Kevin Pangos

Sep 8, 2021 8:28 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a two-year contract with veteran guard Kevin Pangos. The deal is with $3.5 million over two years, with the first season being fully guaranteed. The Cavs will use part of their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception to give Pangos $1.7 million in 2021-22.

Pangos went undrafted out of Gonzaga at the 2015 NBA Draft. He's played in NBA Summer League in 2015, 2016 and 2017, but has never signed a contract in the NBA.

Over the last six seasons, Pangos has developed into one of the top point guards in Europe. He's played for top clubs in Spain, Lithuania and Russia during that time.

In 2020-21, Pangos had his best season. The 6'2'' lead guard averaged 13.1 points on 45/40/87 shooting splits and 6.7 assists per game for Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Cavaliers Continue To Seek Trade For Ben Simmons

Sep 7, 2021 2:18 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made a number of moves this offseason to address their frontcourt but sources tell Marc Stein of Substack that they also continue to seek a trade for Ben Simmons.

The Cavaliers have signed Jarrett Allen to a new five-year, $100 million contract while also selecting Evan Mobley with the third overall pick and also completed a sign-and-trade for Lauri Markkanen.

An acquisition of Simmons would further crowd Cleveland's frontcourt.

The Cavaliers also need to resolve the situation with Kevin Love, though he could conceivably be used as salary ballast in a deal for Simmons.
