Warriors To Allow Biedrins To Compete For Minutes

Sep 28, 2012 10:04 AM

Andris Biedrins hasn't arrived yet to the Golden State Warriors' voluntary workouts.

The center position has become more crowded this season, with Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli also on the depth chart.

“Because it’s a result-driven business, Andris will be allowed to come in and compete for his position,” said general manager Bob Myers. “He’s a professional, and I’ll leave it to the coach to decide what (Biedrins’) role will be. I’m going to try and be neutral on him not coming, and I’m going to be positive on the guys who did come. But he’s shown that he can be an effective player in the NBA. I’m going to let it play out on Andris, and I’m hoping that he comes into camp and is ready to go. I’m not going to judge him until we’ve seen him in the preseason and see what he can do.”

Myers said he doesn’t know if Biedrins can be traded or bought out.

Bogut Expected To Be Ready For Opening Night

Sep 12, 2012 4:10 PM

The Golden State Warriors are expecting Andrew Bogut to be recovered from his fractured left ankle in time for the beginning of the regular season.

“Yes, we expect that,” Warriors GM Bob Myers told Sporting News. “That’s just me prophesizing, but all indications are that will be the case. We’re hoping that he is in there for us on opening night. But if he needs two games, if the difference is waiting because he is not quite there, then we’ll wait. But we expect Bogut to play opening night.”

Bogut had surgery on the ankle on April 27th.

Bogut will be limited in the preseason.

“We think he will certainly play some preseason games,” Myers said. “Probably not the Lakers game (on October 7). But we are trying to make sure that Bogut is playing for us on the last game of the season, that is what is important. But we expect him to be out there.”

Santa Cruz City Council To Reconvene On Warriors D-League Arena

Sep 12, 2012 9:37 AM

The Santa Cruz City Council delayed vote on a $5.4 million arena project for an arena to house the Golden State Warriors' D-League affiliate, that includes a $4 million city loan.

The council will meet again in a closed session on Wednesday afternoon.

The driving concern is approving a project that could be halted by a court injunction if a lawsuit is filed and a judge agrees a more extensive environmental review should have been done.

The facility would have 2,950 seats for basketball and up to 4,000 for concerts.

Camas Steinmetz, a lawyer with Aaronson, Dickerson, Cohn & Lanzone in San Carlos, charges the city should have conducted a full environmental review based on the state law.
