Rockets 'Stonewalled' By Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs With Jalen Green Now Considered 'Lock' At No. 2

Jul 25, 2021 2:42 PM

The Houston Rockets have been stonewalled in their attempts to bring in Evan Mobley and Jalen Suggs for private workouts leading to the draft despite owning the second overall pick.

While Jalen Green has a strong desire to be picked first overall by the Detroit Pistons, he reportedly would be happy to go second. Most NBA teams consider Green to the Rockets "as being close to a lock."

The Rockets have cast a wide net in their predraft process in an attempt to capture as much player data for possible future transactions as possible, which has been met with a mixed reaction across the league. Rafael Stone is beginning his second offseason running the Houston front office.

Heat, Kings, Knicks, Rockets, 76ers 'Most Aggressive' In Pursuing Damian Lillard Trade

Jul 20, 2021 2:29 PM

The Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have recently been the "most aggressive suitors" for a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers for Damian Lillard.

Lillard has said he expects to remain with the Blazers next season, but he has become clear in his desire for more urgency in their efforts to contend for a title.

Should Portland eventually decide to trade Lillard, executives in the NBA expect the Blazers to receive a return for Lillard comparable to what the Brooklyn Nets sent the Rockets for Harden. Lillard is signed for four more seasons at $176 million total.

Rockets Believed To Prefer Jalen Green Over Evan Mobley At No. 2

Jul 16, 2021 11:21 AM

The Houston Rockets prefer Jalen Green over Evan Mobley at No. 2, sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer. Teams are planning for scenarios in which the Rockets select Green at No. 2 even though Mobley is ranked second on the draft boards of most executives, scouts and draft analysts.

Green spent last season in the G League with the Ignite while Mobley was a one-and-done at USC.

The Rockets have a longer time horizon, which could allow them to be patient with the upside of Green.
