Clippers Interested In Hiring Jerry West

May 31, 2017 1:53 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers have interest in hiring Jerry West in an advisory position similar to the one he currently has with the Golden State Warriors.

West is under contract with the Warriors until July and has been asked by Joe Lacob to remain on a new deal.

"We want [West] back," Lacob told the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami. "We love him. He's been a great contributor to the organization, someone I consider a personal friend, as well. We would love him back, and we've made that known."

The Clippers face an uncertain offseason due to the free agencies of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick. If the Clippers were able to hire West away from the Warriors, it would represent a significant coup for the franchise.

Doc Rivers: Durant Joining Warriors 'Tough To Watch For Anybody That's Competitive'

May 30, 2017 11:57 AM

Doc Rivers won The Finals in 2008 with a freshly assembled superteam when Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined he and Paul Pierce with the Boston Celtics.

But Rivers has an issue with Kevin Durant choosing to join the Golden State Warriors instead of continuing to compete against them with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"It is tough when you see a guy join a team — in Durant’s case what he did this year. That was tough for anybody, anybody’s that’s competitive, to watch. He lost, and then he joined. Having said that, it was his choice, I have no problem with him, but it’s something from a competitive standpoint, you would think you wouldn’t do.

"I have no problem with him doing it, it’s just something from a competitive point, for me, I guess when I played it would have been tough for me to join Detroit. Having said that, he has the ability to do it, guys are doing it, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers pursued Durant last offseason.

Clippers Concerned By Spurs' Possible Pursuit Of Chris Paul

May 26, 2017 12:05 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers can offer Chris Paul an extra guaranteed season and bigger raises than any rival team, but the team still remains concerned about their ability to re-sign him in free agency.

The Clippers are treating the San Antonio Spurs as a serious threat of signing Paul. The Spurs don't currently have enough cap space to sign Paul to a max contract, but they could conceivably clear room.

The Spurs' point guard situation is uncertain with Tony Parker having one more season left on his contract and coming off a left leg injury while Patty Mills is an unrestricted free agent.

In addition to Paul, the Clippers also have Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick hitting free agency.

Chris Paul, Spurs Believed To Have Mutual Interest

May 24, 2017 1:16 PM

Chris Paul is widely expected to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason in free agency, but the San Antonio Spurs are lurking as a potential destination.

“I know they’re concerned about their point guard position," said Zach Lowe on The Lowe Post podcast. "Dejounte Murray looks good, but he’s not ready yet."

"They need a bridge there, right?" said Kevin Arnovitz. "They need a little bit of a bridge between (Tony) Parker and Murray."

"Maybe Mills is the bridge but Mills is about to get expensive and I think we saw in this series that he's just not a drive and kick guy. That's just who he is. Patty Mills is great for what he is.

"I know there's been a lot of rumblings about Chris Paul, and I think that's real. I think there's mutual interest there. I don't know how real it is given that the Clippers can offer a gigantic amount of money and are also a really good team. The Spurs, like I said, have no sort of cap flexibility to get there. I'm very curious about what they do this summer and who's on the team next year. And maybe rolling it back is all they can end up doing."

76ers, Nets, Knicks Interested In J.J. Redick

May 18, 2017 2:32 AM

The Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers all have interest in J.J. Redick in free agency.

While the Los Angeles Clippers have interest in re-signing Redick, media reports have consistently indicated he's their free agent most likely to sign elsewhere.

The 76ers are the team said to be most interested in Redick.

“Brooklyn, the Knicks are teams that have interest in Redick. We'll see how far they're willing to pay,” said Adrian Wojnarowski.

Redick has been connected to the Knicks with the possibility of the Clippers revisiting trade talks for Carmelo Anthony.

Lawrence Frank Supportive Of Clippers' Pursuit Of Carmelo Anthony

May 5, 2017 2:32 PM

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are expected to revisit their trade talks centered around Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks would likely need to acquire J.J. Redick in a sign-and-trade in order for an Anthony to the Clippers deal to be realistic. Austin Rivers and Wesley Johnson would likely also be included.

“It’s a great deal for the Knicks — they get a shooter they need [Redick], Rivers is a perfect sixth man and even Wesley is long and athletic and a great locker-room guy,’’ said an NBA executive. “It’s a solid trade for them. They haven’t been able to win with Melo.’’

Anthony was prepared to waive his no-trade clause to join the Clippers at the deadline.

Lawrence Frank is a supporter of Anthony within the Clippers' front office.

Doc Rivers: Clippers Need Length, Two-Way Players

May 3, 2017 7:12 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers face an uncertain offseason with the free agencies of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. The Clippers have struggled with both injuries and a less than adequate supporting cast.

"I don't know. I think they deserve a chance to win. They have built this legacy. I do believe that," Rivers said Wednesday. "Whether that's what we decide to do that or not. There's a big part of me that believes (in them). These guys are responsible for the birth of our franchise in a lot of ways. They consider themselves Clippers. ... I would love them to shepherd that through. Whether that happens or not, it's too early to make all those decisions or they'll make them for us. But I do have a strong believe in that."

Rivers talked about the needs the Clippers have to improve their roster.

"We need length," Rivers said. "We need more length and two-way players. Again, that's easy to say. Little harder to do with the way our contracts are. We may continue to do what we've done or we may decide to change our contracts and have more flexibility."

Rivers is looking forward to shifting towards the front office aspects of his job.

"I'm really looking forward to it," Rivers said. "I'm a driven human being. I can tell you I do this for one reason and that is to be the winner. I decided a while ago I no longer want to be in the party I want to be the party. Like I tell my players, when you set yourself up that way, you're going to have a ton of disappointment. I told them that four years ago. Unfortunately, so far I've been right. It's the only way to go, as far as I'm concerned."

Knicks, Clippers Expected To Revisit Carmelo Anthony Trade With J.J. Redick Included

May 1, 2017 10:14 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks are expected to return to their trade talks centered on Carmelo Anthony.

The two sides discussed trade scenarios involving Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers for Anthony, but Crawford could instead be replaced by J.J. Redick in a sign-and-trade. Redick is 32 compared to the 37-year-old Crawford and is also a better fit for the triangle.

Redick would have to agree upon the deal as he's a free agent.

"It was a tough series for him," Doc Rivers said of Redick.

If the two sides expand the deal, Courtney Lee could also be included heading with Anthony to the Clippers.

Anthony indicated to the Knicks at the deadline that he was agreeable to Los Angeles.
