Heat, Bulls Deny Rumor That Rose Is Headed To Miami

May 29, 2008 10:03 AM

Both the Heat and Bulls are denying a rumor that guard Derrick Rose is headed to South Beach, according to The Miami Herald.

Draft prospect Joey Dorsey, a teammate of Rose's at Memphis, insists that he has the inside track and that Chicago will select Michael Beasley, leaving Rose for the Heat.

"There's absolutely no reason anyone would have any clue," Bulls' GM John Paxson said Wednesday. "Nobody knows."

"Chicago's got a lot of pressure on them because Derrick's from Chicago," Dorsey said earlier this week, spurring the rumors "but they're going to take Beasley. I've talked to [Rose], and [Miami is] where I think he's going to end up. You watch what I tell you. I know."

Heat Worried Wade Will Bolt To Knicks?

May 28, 2008 4:44 PM

Some within the Heat organization are worried that Knicks' Coach Mike D'Antoni will try to integrate himself to Dwyane Wade as an assistant on the U.S. Olympic team this summer, according to The Miami Herald.

New York General Manager Donnie Walsh has made it known that he would like to clear up cap space for the summer of 2010, during which players like Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh will all become free agents.

Dorsey: Chicago Will Take Beasley

May 28, 2008 3:37 PM

Joey Dorsey believes the Chicago Bulls will select Michael Beasley, which would allow the Heat to pick Derrick Rose.

"Chicago's got a lot of pressure on them because Derrick's from Chicago," Dorsey said, "but they're going to take Beasley. I've got the inside. They're going to get Beasley."

Bulls' Vice President John Paxson has adamantly denied reaching a decision.

Wade Wants To Play Alongside Marion

May 26, 2008 5:19 PM

Miami guard Dwyane Wade wants to play a full season alongside forward Shawn Marion, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

All Wade has been saying is "Shawn this" and "Shawn that" as the team prepares for a major roster overhaul this summer.

The only problem with Wade's plan of playing alongside Marion is that the former Phoenix forward has an opt-out clause in his contract ($17.8 million for next season).

It appears as though most teams are trying to save money for the future, namely the 2010 season, which makes it hard to believe that Marion could fetch even close to $17.8 million this summer.

Riley Wants Major Free Agents

May 22, 2008 4:27 PM

Pat Riley has let it be known that he will be active in the trade market, but he's also looking for major free agents in the future, according to HoopsWorld.

"What I like about the opportunity now is, ever since we made the trade (Shaquille O'Neal for Shawn Marion) and went to the future, it gives us flexibility," Riley explained.

"We could be in the hunt next year for a major free agent, definitely without a doubt we are going to save the room in 2010."

The summer of 2010 will be historic because Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh will all become unrestricted free agents.

"We are going to add to the team and stay as disciplined as we can from a cap standpoint ? to get our team healthy, add a young player, add a free agent, and a mid-level guy," Riley continued. "And then in 2010 hopefully take a shot at a major and maximum free agent."

Bulls Looking To Deal Hinrich?

May 21, 2008 4:29 PM

Even before Chicago landed the first overall pick in the draft at Tuesday night's lottery, it appeared as though the team was looking to trade point guard Kirk Hinrich, according to The Miami Herald.

It's believed that the Bulls will draft Derrick Rose while looking to deal current point guard Hinrich.

The Heat are one of the teams that could be interested in Hinrich's services as they covet an above-average passer.

Riley Thinking About Trading No. 2 Pick?

May 21, 2008 9:33 AM

After landing the second overall pick in June's NBA Draft, Heat coach Pat Riley is reportedly thinking about trading the selection, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"Unless there's somebody like LeBron James or a [Kevin] Garnett, somebody you absolutely know is a superstar, then the second-most important thing to have is leverage," Riley said. "We feel we have a lot of leverage with the pick."

Miami had the best chance to land the first overall pick on Tuesday night at the NBA Draft Lottery, but was leapfrogged by Chicago, who had just a 1.7% chance of getting the top pick.

"Take a look at what Boston did last year," Riley said about the trade of its fifth overall pick for Garnett. "I'm talking hypotheticals. I just want people to know, especially our fans, that we're going to do our best to select a player or leverage that pick to get the best player for the team."

D-Wade: 'We Deserve The Top Pick'

May 20, 2008 7:06 PM

Dwyane Wade, representing the Miami Heat at the 2008 NBA Draft Lottery, said that he believes the team deserves the top overall pick in this June's Draft.

When asked whether or not he brought a good luck charm with him to New Jersey, Wade said, "It's not about luck, we feel we deserve the top pick."

Miami has the best chance to land the top pick, based purely on odds stemming from their league-worst record in 2007-08.

"We need someone that's explosive and can help us get up-and-down the floor," Wade said of who the team might be looking to draft. "Ultimately, it's all up to the big guy, Pat Riley."

Lottery Time: Are You Feeling Lucky?

May 20, 2008 6:51 AM

The NBA lottery will be held tonight to determine who will be selecting the first three players in the 2008 NBA Draft.

While Miami, Seattle and Minnesota have the best chances, rarely does the lottery play out this way, so who is going to feel lucky and who is going to come away disappointed?

Most believe the two players who are fighting to become the first overall pick in 2008 are Derrick Rose from Memphis, and Michael Beasley from Kansas State.  Which team is going to put themselves in a position to decide who is going to be the first overall pick?  While we will not know officially until tonight, you can play around on the RealGM Lottery Simulator to see if you can come up with that winning combination.

The odds (chances out of 1,000 are in brackets):

Miami (250)
Seattle (199)
Minnesota (138)
Memphis (137)
New York (76)
L.A. Clippers (75)
Milwaukee (43)
Charlotte (28)
Chicago (17)
New Jersey (11)
Indiana (8)
Sacramento (7)
Portland (6)
Golden State (5)

Positive Indicators For Marion Extension?

May 19, 2008 11:38 AM

With Shawn Marion serious about wanting a contract extension, agent Dan Fegan met with Pat Riley and "all indications are positive the Heat and Shawn want a match going forward," Fegan said.

An extension for Marion would be tricky, however, with Riley coveting '09 salary-cap space.
