David Fizdale, Marc Gasol Made Peace During Offseason Conversation

Nov 25, 2018 9:46 PM

David Fizdale and Marc Gasol made peace during a telephone conversation over the summer.

Fizdale was fired by the Memphis Grizzlies after a Nov. 26, 2017 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in which Gasol was benched for the entire fourth quarter.

"It was a fantastic conversation," Fizdale said. "It was two men that evolved. That's pretty cool to see a moment in your life, individually as a man where your life changed and you got better because of it, somebody made you better. I credit him for that. He made me a better coach. He made me a better person. I was lucky to be his coach."

Gasol credits Fizdale for helping him expand his three-point range.

"We're both appreciative, and we both understand that it wasn't perfect," Gasol told ESPN. "We both would have handled it differently, not last year but the year before when everything happened. We won't let that happen again. It's simple -- you live, you learn and you move on. We made peace with each other, and that's it."

Kristaps Porzingis Posts Sprinting Photos In Response To David Fizdale

Nov 9, 2018 10:59 AM

Kristaps Porzingis posted two pictures of himself sprinting on an outdoor track in response to comments from David Fizdale that he's only doing some light running.

Fizdale said Porzingis was "working his butt off" but hadn't progressed significantly from the activity he was engaged in before training camp, which included light running and shooting.

"He's still kind of there, [no] huge jumps," Fizdale said.

Porzingis underwent surgery to repair an ACL tear in his left knee in mid-February.

The Knicks don't yet have a timetable for Porzingis to return.

Carmelo Anthony: Perception Of Knicks Scared Some People Away

Nov 2, 2018 11:32 AM

Carmelo Anthony believes the perception of the New York Knicks as an organization hurt the team's chances of signing free agents during his tenure there.

"I think just the business. Everything that was going on. The perception of New York Knicks ... not basketball but the organization," Anthony said Thursday when asked what kept the Knicks from landing a top free agent when he was there.

"I think it probably scared a lot of people away. Scared some people away. Not knowing the nuances and the ins and outs of kind of what was going on, who is in charge, who is not. So it was more than just basketball when it came to people making those decisions," he said.

Anthony played under four different team presidents/general managers during his tenure, along with four different full-time head coaches.

The Knicks had opportunities in 2015 and 2016 to add significant free agents.
