76ers Offered Ish Smith, Stauskas, First Rounder To Hawks For Dennis Schroder

Feb 23, 2016 6:50 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers offered Ish Smith, Nik Stauskas, an expiring contract and a 2016 first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Dennis Schroder.

Smith couldn't have been included in a multi-player deal since he had been acquired fewer than 60 days before the deadline, but he could have been moved in a second deal.

Smith is expected to have significant interest in free agency.

The Sixers and Hawks could revisit their trade talks in June.

The Boston Celtics targeted Jahlil Okafor shortly before the trade deadline, according to a source.

Joel Embiid Working On Next Phase Of Rehab In Qatar

Feb 18, 2016 12:17 AM

Joel Embiid travelled to Doha, Qatar over the All-Star break consulting and rehabilitating his twice surgically repaired right foot.

Embiid is at Aspetar, which is described as "the world's leading specialized orthopedic and sports medicine hospital."

Embiid is expected to remain there for a few more days.

This is being described as a "previously scheduled" trip at a facility the organization had investigated for roughly six months and referred to it as "a kick-start to the next phase" of Embiid's rehab.

Plenty of world-class soccer players work with what the main source referred to as "a high-performance hospital."

The Philadelphia 76ers aren't yet sure if Embiid will be healthy enough to play in Summer League this year and he hasn't played in a competitive game in nearly two years.

Kings, Bulls Discussing Pau Gasol Trade

Feb 17, 2016 11:57 PM

The Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls have held discussions centered on a trade involving Pau Gasol.

In the discussed scenario, the Kings would acquire Gasol and Tony Snell from the Bulls for Kosta Koufos, Ben McLemore and the lowering of lottery protections on a pick owed by Sacramento to Chicago.

The lowering of protections would increase the odds of the pick being conveyed to the Bulls.

The pick owed to the Bulls began in 2011 with the Kings' trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers when they acquired J.J. Hickson for Omri Casspi and a future first rounder. The pick was then dealt to the Chicago Bulls in 2014 for Luol Deng.

The Kings have reached out to the Philadelphia 76ers because they have the right to swap picks with the Kings on the 2016 selection. The 76ers were preparing to ask for a sweetener to allow the Kings to move on a trade with the Bulls because of the pick swap.

76ers Gauging Trade Interest In Jahlil Okafor

Feb 17, 2016 9:37 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers have been gauging the trade value of Jahlil Okafor ahead of the deadline.

The 76ers selected Okafor with the third overall pick last June.

Okafor said less than 24 hours ahead of the deadline that he hadn't really thought about the event.

It was previously reported that the 76ers would likely wait until they can assess the health of Joel Embiid before making a decision on the future of either Okafor or Nerlens Noel.

The Miami Heat were a team that has expressed interest in Okafor this season.

76ers Still Willing To Take Bad Contracts To Acquire Future Draft Picks

Feb 17, 2016 6:01 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers continue to be in the asset accumulation phase of their rebuild.

With the hiring of Jerry Colangelo in December, the 76ers appeared to be shifting away from Sam Hinkie's plan of an extended rebuild.

The 76ers remain interested in taking on bad contracts in order to receive more draft picks.

Philadelphia, like the Portland Trail Blazers, have the cap space necessary to take on contracts for teams looking to save money on the luxury tax.

The 76ers traded for JaVale McGee at last year's deadline to acquire a future first round pick.

Jerry Colangelo Wants 76ers 'Very Competitive In Three Years'

Feb 14, 2016 11:49 AM

Jerry Colangelo wants the Philadelphia 76ers to accelerate their timetable of contention.

"I'd like to see us very competitive in three years. . . . That means not just making the playoffs," said Jerry Colangelo.

The 76ers were in an extended rebuild under Sam Hinkie before they hired Colangelo.

"I would hope that the Sixers are in a lot better shape than what they were from the time I started," Colangelo said of when his contract expires. "That only means if I can help contribute to an improvement of the franchise. That's why I'm there."

76ers Waiting On Joel Embiid As Trade Calls Come For Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor

Feb 10, 2016 5:33 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers have received trade inquiries from rival teams on the availability of Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor.

The 76ers, however, do not want to part with either Noel or Okafor until they know if Joel Embiid is healthy enough to play.

Embiid has undergone surgery on his right foot in each of the past two summers.

If the 76ers do trade a center, it is unlikely to happen until the offseason.
