Joe Lacob: Warriors Losing 70% Of Revenue Without Fans

Jan 30, 2021 1:29 PM

The Golden State Warriors are missing out on 70% of their revenue without fans attending games, according to Joe Lacob.

“Over 70% of our revenue are lost when we’re in this situation without fans,” said Lacob at a recent SporticoLive event.

The Warriors are adversely impacted because they don't have a large local media contract and due to expenses following their move to a new arena.

Sportico estimates that the team generated $434 million of revenue last season from home games.

Lacob added that the Warriors will continue to try to find ways to get fans in attendance this season, including administering rapid PCR tests at the door.

“It’s actually very costly, but the truth is, we feel that whatever we spend on it, we will get that much back if we can have fans in the building," added Lacob.

Warriors Replace James Wiseman In Starting Lineup With Kevon Looney

Jan 25, 2021 10:47 PM

Steve Kerr has replaced James Wiseman in the Golden State Warriors' starting lineup with Kevon Looney.

Kerr hopes the move will improve the unit's defense.

"Basically, you guys have heard me all year trying to establish ourselves as a defensive team and the last two games have been really disappointing defensively, particularly right out of the gate, first quarter," Kerr said during a pregame video conference with reporters. "We gave up 41 to the Knicks I think and 38 to Utah. So I'm going to go with my veteran center, my veteran group together. That group happens to be our best defensive five on the season, that combination. So the hope is we can get off to a better start."

Kerr said Wiseman handled the benching "perfectly" when he told the rookie about the move earlier Monday.

"He understands this is not a demotion by any means. It's simply a part of his development," Kerr said. "And as I've said to you guys many times, we've got a lot of moving parts. We're trying to develop young players and be a playoff team, be a contender, and we're trying to do all that at once.

"And so part of that process is going to include occasional changes to lineups, combinations, whatever that means and I'm very confident that this ultimately will be a good part of James' development. He's still going to play, but it gives him a slightly different role, and a different way to look at the game and it all goes forward."

NBA Rescinds Draymond Green Technical Foul

Jan 23, 2021 1:21 AM

Draymond Green's second technical foul from Thursday night's game against the New York Knicks was rescinded by the league.

Second-year official John Butler thought that Green was yelling at him late in the second quarter, giving Green his second technical and ejecting him from the game.

Green, instead, was yelling at James Wiseman.

The game's crew chief Ben Taylor admitted Butler's mistake at halftime.

Warriors Viewed LaMelo Ball As More Talented, James Wiseman As Better Fit

Jan 14, 2021 1:34 PM

The Golden State Warriors selected James Wiseman at No. 2 ahead of LaMelo Ball, who went No. 3 to the Charlotte Hornets.

The Warriors reportedly viewed Wiseman as the better fit at center, but may have considered Ball the more talented prospect.

"From what I was told, they saw [LaMelo] as the most talented player in the draft, but the fit made more sense with Wiseman," said Marcus Thompson of The Athletic. "It wasn't like they weren't on him."

Through his first 12 games, Ball is averaging 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 25.3 minutes. Wiseman is averaging 10.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 20.7 minutes. Ball has a PER of 18.0 compared to 12.5 for Wiseman.

Bob Myers: Without Klay Thompson, Warriors At Intermission

Jan 6, 2021 11:20 AM

The Golden State Warriors reached five straight Finals but their 19-20 and 20-21 seasons have made it difficult to determine where they are in their cycle of contention due to injuries.

"It's hard to evaluate a team without health," Bob Myers said. "But I'm excited to see what we can do. It's a lot of 'new.' It's a band that just sat down in the garage, playing songs for the first time. Sometimes the drummer's too loud, or the singer says, 'Hey, turn down the guitar.' And that's who we are. We're a band that hasn't even fully formed."

Myers was asked specifically where the Warriors are in their life cycle.

"Without Klay, we're at intermission," replied Myers.

Draymond Green has taken on more of a player development role, especially with James Wiseman.

"He wants to win more than anything else," Steve Kerr said of Green. "And he knows that James is a possible ticket back to back to winning."
