Warriors Have Four Out Of Nine Most-Watched Games This Season

Nov 21, 2022 12:26 AM

Last Wednesday's game between the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns averaged 1.62 million viewers on ESPN, representing an increase from last season's game between the Suns and the Dallas Mavericks that drew 1.36 million viewers.

The Suns' 130-119 win over the Warriors was also the ninth most-watched game of the NBA season. The Warriors have played in four out of those nine games.

The first part of last Tuesday's TNT doubleheader between the Grizzlies and Pelicans drew an 0.6 rating, less than half of last season's game between the Warriors and Nets in the same timeslot.

The second half of the doubleheader between the Nets and Kings drew the smallest audience of the season on TNT with 888,000 viewers.

Steve Kerr Hasn't Considered Benching Klay Thompson

Nov 11, 2022 9:01 AM

Klay Thompson is off to the worst start of his NBA career. But Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he has no plans to bench the veteran guard.

When asked if he's considered moving Thompson to the bench in favor of Jordan Poole, Kerr was emphatic in saying no.

"No, that's not something I've given any thought to," Kerr said. "Jordan & Klay are very different players. Jordan's on the ball, Klay's off the ball...Klay is a starter. That 5-man unit is the best in the league."

Through nine games, Thompson is shooting a career-low 36% from the field, including just 32.6% on three-pointers. For his career, Thompson has shot 45.6% from the floor and 41.5% from behind the arc.

Bob Myers: Too Early To Make Any Drastic Decisions

Nov 9, 2022 8:00 AM

The Golden State Warriors have been trying to maintain multiple timelines by having their championship core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, while also developing a number of high-potential former lottery picks.

Those lottery picks, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga, were expected to contribute this season, but the early returns have been discouraging.

Bob Myers was asked if Golden State's slow start to the season has made the franchise reconsider whether they need to make a win-now trade by moving one or more of those young players.

"I know it’s been written and maybe too succinctly: We’re always open to anything," said Myers. "Nothing is concrete in this business and it’s never been more so in the NBA. Doesn’t mean we’re doing anything now. We haven’t made any decisions. But I would say that we think we’re a contender and we’ll evaluate if we’re still a contender, what we look like, many games from now and decide the best course to move forward.

"I go back to last year at the deadline and this clamor we had to have a big guy or we weren’t going to win. And that’s fine. But you never know, right? [Kevon] Looney played 82, and Draymond, and it worked out. So it’s hard to say as far as personnel what the right buttons to push are.

"We’re not going to overreact to this start. We’re going to see how we move through it. But we view ourselves as contenders. There’s no secret there. And we’ll look at the roster as we move ahead. But at this point, it’s way too early to kind of make any proclamations about what we’re going to do. I know there’s an intense interest. I love that we have such a following in our community and such a passion for our team. It’s so nice to work in an environment where we have that engagement level. I mean, I walk across the street and get yelled at about what we need to do, which is what I love about the Bay Area and San Francisco.

"But it is 11 games. I’ll get back on the phone with you after 40 games or half the season and if we’re talking about the same stuff, maybe it’ll be different answers. But at this point, it is early. Not so early that we don’t care what we’re looking like. But it is too early to kind of make any drastic decisions."

Warriors Not Interested In Pursuing Draymond Green Trade

Nov 3, 2022 1:56 PM

The Golden State Warriors held no trade talks involving Draymond Green following his punch of Jordan Poole and "don't plan to as of now," sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Green can become a free agent in 2023 if he declines his option worth $27.5 million.

The Warriors and Green did not come to terms on an extension before the start of the season, though they did so with both Poole and Andrew Wiggins.

Green signed a five-year, $82 million contract in 2015 as a restricted free agent, and then a four-year, $100 million extension in 2019. The extension in 2019 was for the biggest raise he was eligible for as an extension.

Klay Thompson, Warriors Didn't Hold Substantive Extension Talks

Nov 3, 2022 1:52 PM

The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson did not hold substantive discussions on a contract extension, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Thompson has been back from his torn ACL and Achilles for less than a year and has been inconsistent in his play, which makes determining his future value difficult.

Thompson cannot become a free agent until after the 23-24 season. Draymond Green, however, can become a free agent next summer.

The Warriors agreed to extensions last month with Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole.
