Sterling Attempted To Rescind Bledsoe, Redick, Dudley Deal

Oct 28, 2013 11:01 PM

Two days after the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks agreed to a three-team trade involving Eric Bledsoe, Jared Dudley, J.J. Redick and others, Donald Sterling instructed his team president, Andy Roeser, to rescind the deal.

The deal had already been agreed upon and leaked to the media, but could not become official until July 11 when the moratorium was lifted.

It was up to Doc Rivers to change Sterling's mind, but Redick and his representatives couldn't wait much longer on whether his four-year, $27 million deal would be upheld.

Redick's other suitors were beginning to reach deals with other similar players.

Rivers had sold Redick that the culture of the Clippers was changing, but the turn of events showed that Sterling remains unpredictable.

Rivers was embarrassed and humiliated after agreeing to come to the Clippers with ultimate authority and he feared that his credibility in future talks would be paralyzed if this deal was rescinded.

There are some that believe Rivers would have been forced to step down if Sterling didn't relent.

"It never got to that," one source told Yahoo Sports, "but it might have had Sterling not come around."

Clippers Replace Lakers' Title Banners For Home Games At Staples Center

Oct 19, 2013 2:07 AM

None of the Los Angeles Lakers' banners -- championship, retired or special ones -- will be displayed by the Los Angeles Clippers when they play home games at Staples Center this season.

Making their exhibition debut for the 2013-14 season on Friday, seven oversized Clippers banners hide every bit of the Lakers' storied history.

From left to right, banners of Jamal Crawford, Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick, DeAndre Jordan, Jared Dudley, Chris Paul and Matt Barnes overlook the arena.

The Clippers are poised to win the Pacific Divison this season.

Chris Paul, J.J. Redick Needed To Get Over Dislike Of Each Other

Oct 17, 2013 2:42 PM

Chris Paul and J.J. Redick held a dislike toward each other as opponents at Wake Forest and Duke, respectively, and then carried over the hatred in the NBA.

Both guards had to get over their rocky relationship when they became Los Angeles Clippers teammates in the offseason.

"We have actually had a chance to become real close, real quick," Paul said. "Who would have thought after the battles we had in college. ... Before I got to know him he was no friend of mine. It is what it is. But that's how it was in college."

Said Redick: "We connected right away."

The boiling point between Paul and Redick came in the summer of 2004 when both were counselors at the Jordan Brand Camp in Santa Barbara, Calif. During a scrimmage between the two, Redick became so irritated that he struck Paul.

"I actually had to apologize to him," Redick said. "…I put my hands on him during a game. It was a hand to the face type of move. I don't know how to describe it.

"We were in the dorm at UC Santa Barbara, and I was told I had to apologize to him. I knew he didn't like me then, but he did [accept the apology]."

Blake Griffin's MRI Shows No Structural Damage

Oct 12, 2013 3:24 PM

Blake Griffin "absolutely" feared the worst when he injured his knee in a Wednesday scrimmage.

An MRI revealed Griffin only had a bone bruise and no structural damage.

"Every time I've hurt my knee the previous time, it was always like when I planted, when I was going up and not coming down," Griffin said. "So, just that alone was kind of scary to me. But as soon as we got the news, it's one of those things that you can deal with pain if you know what the pain is."

Griffin participated in full practice on Friday after missing Thursday's session.
