Chris Bosh Could Struggle To Find Team To Clear Him

May 30, 2017 12:07 PM

Chris Bosh could have difficulty finding a team to sign with this offseason.

Bosh and the Miami Heat are moving close to a resolution.

While Bosh has remained an effective player, finding a doctor to clear him following his recurring blood clots will be challenging.

"Miami had about $50 million reasons for him to play and could not get a doctor to clear him," the unidentified executive said. "Very unlikely the answer will be different at a team with $0 million reasons for him to play."

Bosh has spoken about his desire to play again, yet has also discussed moving on with his life at the age of 33.

Chris Bosh, Heat, NBPA Reach Resolution

May 24, 2017 4:44 PM

Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat and the players' association have tentatively agreed to a resolution that would allow all parties to move on.

The sides have been discussing a resolution to Bosh's situation since last fall.

Bosh is guaranteed $52 million over the next two seasons, though a significant portion of that is covered by insurance. Bosh has remained on Miami's salary cap, which has limited their ability to replace him.

The Heat will end up with between $14 million and $37 million in cap room, depending on player options, team options and waivers decisions.

A special agreement has been necessary since the NBA is between two collective bargaining agreements.

Under the new CBA, a panel of doctors selected by the league and the association would determine whether a player with a potentially life-threatening medical condition would be cleared to play.

Josh McRoberts Exercises $6M Player Option With Heat

May 24, 2017 12:36 PM

Josh McRoberts has exercised his player option for $6 million next season with the Miami Heat.

McRoberts will be entering the final season of the contract he signed with the Heat in 2014.

McRoberts is now eligible to be traded by the Heat.

Agent Mike Conley told the Sun Sentinel on Tuesday the early timing of the decision was a product of his recent discussions with McRoberts.

McRoberts appeared in just 22 games this past season as he was sidelined since late December with a stress fracture in his left foot.

Heat Close To Resolution With Chris Bosh For Cap Relief

May 23, 2017 1:40 PM

Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat are moving towards a resolution that will allow his salary to come off their salary cap without concern of it returning going forward.

Bosh failed a physical in the preseason after missing the final part of both the 14-15 and 15-16 seasons due to blood clots.

The Heat, NBA and NBPA have been working together on a resolution for Bosh's situation that will likely be a one-time allocation.

A return to the NBA by Bosh could have reinstated his cap hit to the Heat.

Bosh's contract expires after the 18-19 season.

The Heat had the right to apply to exclude Bosh's salary from their salary cap as soon as Feb. 9, the one-year anniversary from his last game played.

Bosh still has interest in resuming his playing career.

May 8, 2017 2:56 AM

The Miami Heat have until July 7th to guarantee the $6.3 million salary of Wayne Ellington for the 17-18 season.

Shane Battier Excited For New Challenge In Miami Front Office

May 4, 2017 7:19 PM

Shane Battier became director of basketball analytics and development for the Miami Heat this season.

Battier's function in the Heat hierarchy remains somewhat undefined.

"It's a way to stay connected to the game," Battier said of moving into that next phase. "It's a game that's been great to me and I've loved. It's a new challenge."

Battier was asked about his scouting "lens."

"I don't think we have enough tape to talk about my lens," he said. "You want good people and good players. You have that, you'll be all right."
