Elfrid Payton Leaves Game With Sore Hamstring

Oct 29, 2019 2:11 AM

Elfrid Payton left the New York Knicks' 105-98 win over the Chicago Bulls with soreness in his right hamstring.

"I'm not sure where it's at right now with Elfrid if he's going to be out or not. I've got to wait and hear from the trainers," said David Fizdale following the game.

Payton finished the game with 3 points and 2 rebounds in 21 minutes.

Fizdale was impressed with Frank Ntilikina, who took Payton's minutes.

"His minutes were fantastic. He guarded, he set the tone early, he made some nice plays to set people up, he got us organized," said Fizdale of Ntilikina,

David Fizdale On RJ Barrett: 'He's A Stud, That's The Only Way I Can Put It'

Oct 27, 2019 12:18 PM

Both David Fizdale and Brad Stevens complimented RJ Barrett following his 26-point, 7-rebound performance in the New York Knicks' 118-95 loss to the Boston Celtics.

"He's a stud, that's the only way I can put it. He's a stud," said Fizdale after the game.

Stevens noted Barrett's offensive versatility.

"His ability to shoot the ball early on has been impressive. He's always been able to get down hill and finish. Big strong guard. The way the league is going, he can play 2-through-4. And he finished the game the other night at the point. So quite an impressive young guy," added Stevens.

Kemba Walker 'Definitely' Considered Knicks In Free Agency

Oct 27, 2019 11:51 AM

Kemba Walker considered signing with the New York Knicks as a free agent, but he ultimately decided to join the Boston Celtics.

“It was [a consideration]. It was," said Walker. They were definitely one of the teams I was looking at in free agency. But I picked Boston. I just felt it was a better fit for me.”

Walker signed a four-year, $141 million deal with the Celtics.

Walker was asked if the Celtics expressed interest.

“I guess they did. Obviously, the players and teams can’t communicate.”

David Fizdale Calls Knicks' Point Guard Situation 'Difficult'

Oct 26, 2019 11:46 AM

David Fizdale said the New York Knicks point guard situation was still unclear following their 113-109 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

Elfrid Payton got the start, though he turned to RJ Barrett down the stretch.

“It’s difficult. It’s difficult. We’ll watch the film. We got a game [Saturday], so you’ll know soon enough," said Fizdale.

Payton scored 10 points in 24 minutes but did not play in the fourth quarter.

Dennis Smith played just over 4 minutes in the game.

"We weren’t moving the ball. We weren’t trying to get the ball to the second side of the ball. We had five or six assists in the first half and finished with 17. The ball moved better in the second half. We just have to get out of that mindset that, ‘I’m going to be the one to will it,’ and get to a place where we really start to trust each other," added Fizdale.

David Fizdale To Use 10-Player Rotation With Knicks

Oct 22, 2019 2:43 AM

David Fizdale says he plans to use at least a 10-player rotation with the New York Knicks this upcoming season.

"I'll go more what the game calls for. For sure, a 10-(player rotation). If I have to go to 11 or 12, I feel comfortable with the guys that we have doing that," said Fizdale before the opening day of the NBA season.

With RJ Barrett, Marcus Morris, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson expected to start, Fizdale has yet to name a starting point guard.

Fizdale added that he liked what he saw from his front court combination of Randle and Robinson.

"The big thing for me is the same thing I've been telling them - they've got to go get that ball for us. They've got to rebound that ball."

Knicks Believe Spurs Tampered With Kristaps Porzingis

Oct 21, 2019 1:10 PM

The New York Knicks believed the San Antonio Spurs tampered with Kristaps Porzingis when he was still on their team.

The Knicks traded Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks shortly before the 2019 trade deadline.

The Knicks felt justified in signing Marcus Morris after he committed to a deal with the Spurs due to that tampering belief concerning Porzingis. Morris and Rich Paul parted ways after the episode and the Spurs were upset with the Knicks.

Morris agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal with the Spurs and then signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Knicks.

Knicks Were 'Stunned, Depressed' By Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving Signing With Nets

Oct 19, 2019 12:09 PM

Management of the New York Knicks were "stunned and depressed" when Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant elected to sign with the Brooklyn Nets on June 30th, according to a team source that spoke with Frank Isola of The Athletic.

The Knicks were optimistic of their chances of signing Durant throughout the 18-19 season and created cap space to do so by trading Kristaps Porzingis alongside Tim Hardaway and Courtney Lee.

The Knicks reportedly wanted to pair Durant and Irving with Zion Williamson by winning the lottery.

The Knicks instead pivoted to sign a number of second and third tier free agents on short-term deals.
