Chris Paul Out At Least 6-8 Weeks With Avulsion Fracture In Right Thumb

Feb 20, 2022 8:04 PM

When Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul was spotted with a cast/wrap on his right hand at All-Star media availability, he said he hoped it was nothing serious. As it turns out, Paul has an avulsion fracture in his right thumb and will be out at least six-to-eight weeks.

Paul seemed so non-plussed about the injury, that he suggested he might even play a few minutes in Sunday's All-Star Game. While Paul still plans to make a cameo appearance in the All-Star Game, he'll likely be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season.

There are seven weeks left in the NBA's regular season. Phoenix currently sits in the top spot in the Western Conference, a comfortable 6.5 games ahead of the second-place Golden State Warriors.

Chris Paul May Miss Time With Hand Injury

Feb 19, 2022 4:49 PM

Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul is at his 12th All-Star Game, but how much he'll play on Sunday is up in the air. Paul suffered an injury to his right hand in the Suns last game before the All-Star break on Wednesday.

Phoenix has not released the results of an MRI, but Paul's hand was wrapped in a cast at All-Star practice. Speaking with the media, Paul didn't speak to the extent of his injury.

"We're 48-10 and if we do miss some time I know the guys are going to hold it down," Paul said. "There's always going to be a frustration with injury. My hand surgeon is part of my family now."

Suns coach Monty Williams, who is coaching Team LeBron at All-Star also declined to say how long Paul might be out. But his point guard did own that something is bothering him with his shooting hand.

"I always want to play. When I felt that in my hand, I was mad for all types of reasons," Paul said. "Obviously we're not going to rush it. I'm going to try to heal as fast as physically possible. The second I'm able to play, I guarantee you I will be playing."

Suns, Pacers Had Brief Dialogue On Deandre Ayton For Domantas Sabonis

Feb 11, 2022 12:23 PM

The Phoenix Suns and Indiana Pacers had a brief conversation around a trade of Deandre Ayton for Domantas Sabonis, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

The talks didn't get far and may have been informal and exploratory without a formal offer from other team.

Sabonis is due $18.5 million next season and $19.4 million in 2023-24, while Ayton will be a restricted free agent almost certain to command a far higher salary this offseason.

The Pacers instead traded Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings for Tyrese Haliburton.

Suns Waived Abdel Nader To Complete Trade With Wizards

Feb 11, 2022 8:56 AM

The Phoenix Suns waived Abdel Nader to complete a trade deadline deal with the Washington Wizards. The Suns acquired Aaron Holiday via the Dario Saric Disabled Player Exception before the deadline.

Because that exception is a cap exception and not a roster exception, Phoenix had to waive a player to fit Holiday on the roster. Given Nader's long-term absence due to injury, he was the choice.

Phoenix will carry $2 million in dead money for Nader for the remainder of this season. If Nader is claimed off waivers, that amount will come off of Phoenix's books.

The Suns also early-terminated the 10-day hardship contract for Justin Jackson, as a part of the deadline moves.

Suns Interested In Domantas Sabonis, Possibly During Offseason

Feb 8, 2022 10:16 AM

The Phoenix Suns have recently been mentioned by "a handful of personnel around the league" as a team with interest in acquiring Domantas Sabonis.

The Suns have the best record in the NBA and a major move this week involving Sabonis is unlikely considering how it would potentially disrupt their chemistry.

The Suns and Pacers, however, could revisit the concept in the offseason as a potential sign-and-trade involving Deandre Ayton. The Suns were unable to agree to terms on an extension with Ayton in the offseason.

Sabonis is signed through 23-24 on a salary short of $20 million per year.

Suns Interested In Trading For Eric Gordon

Feb 2, 2022 9:39 AM

The Phoenix Suns are looking to add depth, as they push for a return trip the NBA Finals. That goal has the Suns looking into trading for Eric Gordon of the Houston Rockets.

Phoenix has been shopping Dario Saric and his $8.5 million contract in trade talks. Saric is expected to miss the entire season after tearing his ACL in Game 1 of the 2021 NBA Finals. The Suns see him, and his contract, as a no-production-lost way of upgrading their rotation.

The Rockets are looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Gordon. The Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Pelicans have both been linked to the scoring guard, as well as the Suns.
