Kenny Atkinson, Terry Stotts Considered Frontrunners For Orlando Job

Jun 29, 2021 8:41 AM

The Orlando Magic are believed to be looking for a candidate with prior head coaching experience with Kenny Atkinson and Terry Stotts likely the favorites.

Atkinson "has been the loudest name mentioned for Orlando's open post," writes Jake Fischer at Bleacher Report. Atkinson is currently working as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Stotts is a coaching free agent after he was let go by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Magic parted ways with Steve Clifford this offseason.

Paul George: I'm Beyond Worrying About Criticisms

Jun 29, 2021 8:32 AM

Paul George scored 41 points on 15 of 20 shooting from the floor in the Los Angeles Clippers' 116-102 Game 5 win over the Phoenix Suns.

After the game, George was asked if he feels like he's picked on more than other NBA stars when things go bad.

"I do," George answered. "And it's the honest truth. It's a fact. But I can't worry about that. It comes with the job, I guess. ... I still try to go and dominate. ... And so I'm beyond that, you know what I mean. I am who I am. I wish I could shoot 80%, 75%, on a nightly basis, but it's not realistic."

"What I can do is do everything else," he added. "They can judge me on what they want to. That part don't matter to me. I'm going to go out there and hoop and give it everything I got."

Since Kawhi Leonard was injured in Game 4 of the second round, George has been consistently excellent for the Clippers outside of his two missed free throws in Game 2 against the Suns.

"I don't know where this trolling bulls--- has come from where the internet controls the narratives about these players," said DeMarcus Cousins, who scored 15 points in 11 minutes off the bench. "It's becoming foolish, man. Like I said earlier in the year, [George is] one of the most special players to ever lace his shoes up.

"Give this dude his flowers, man. I don't understand the slander. It's becoming quite silly now. Respect these players, man. Respect these greats."

Ty Lue Says Clippers Coming Back From 3-1 Deficit Is 'Very Doable'

Jun 27, 2021 12:59 PM

Ty Lue remained optimistic over the Los Angeles Clippers playoff hopes despite being down 3-1 to the Phoenix Suns.

"We beat Utah and won four games in a row. So it's very doable," said Lue following his team's Game 4 loss.

The Clippers are the only team in NBA history to come back down 2-0 in the opening two rounds of the playoffs.

In the conference finals, teams that have a 3-1 lead have gone on to win the best-of-seven series 93% of the time.

Paul George added that he doesn't want Kawhi Leonard, who has missed the last six games due to a knee injury, to play unless he's fully healthy. Leonard is "highly unlikely" to play in Game 5.

"If he's not 100, we don't want him out there. I mean, that's just as a brother, as a teammate. His health long term is more important than what's going on now. I can't speak on the extent of his injury or, you know, what he [can] and cannot give us. Like I've been saying, his health is just more important than anything else."

Game 5 takes place on Monday night.

Clippers Nicknamed Tyronn Lue 'Bill Belichick' Due To His Ability To Make Adjustments

Jun 24, 2021 1:59 PM

Tyronn Lue famously led the Cleveland Cavaliers back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 Finals and also has helped guide the Los Angeles Clippers back from 2-0 deficits in each of the first two rounds of this year's playoffs, demonstrating his ability to make adjustments as a series progresses. The Clippers are again down 2-0, this time against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals.

"We crack jokes," Patrick Beverley said after the Game 2 loss in Phoenix. "We called T-Lue 'Bill Belichick' with all the adjustments he makes.

"He's definitely going to find a way."

David Griffin believes Cleveland's regular-season record would have been better during their time together if Lue hadn't held back. Griffin recalls one instance when the Cavs were being carved up playing a certain defensive set.

"What are you doing?" Griffin asked Lue.

"I know how I'm going to adjust," Griffin recalls Lue responding. "Do you want me to do it now and let them have a head start for the playoffs, or do you want me to do it when the playoffs start?"

"He was playing chess the whole time," Griffin said.
