Grizzlies Trade Eric Bledsoe To Clippers For Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo, Daniel Oturu

Aug 16, 2021 7:58 AM

The Memphis Grizzlies are trading guard Eric Bledsoe to the Los Angeles Clippers for guards Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo and center Daniel Oturu.

Memphis had acquired Bledsoe earlier this offseason in a three-team trade with the New Orleans Pelicans and Charlotte Hornets. The Grizzlies also acquired Steven Adams and the draft rights to Ziaire Williams in the deal. The Pelicans acquired Jonas Valanciunas, Devonte Graham (via sign-and-trade) and the draft rights to Trey Murphy III. Charlotte acquired Wesley Iwundu and a first round pick from New Orleans.

Beverley had played for the Clippers since 2017, when he was acquired in a trade that sent Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets. Rondo was traded to the Clippers from the Atlanta Hawks at the 2021 trade deadline. Oturu was drafted by the Clippers at the 2020 NBA Draft.

Kawhi Leonard Can Sign Extension In 2023

Aug 13, 2021 11:07 AM

Kawhi Leonard chose a longer-term deal instead of potentially signing a two-year, $82 million deal with a player option in 22-23 and becoming a free agent again in 2022, which would have made him eligible to sign a five-year, $235 million max contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Leonard also could have signed a four-year, $187 million extension had he opted into the $36 million he was set to earn in the 21-22 season.

Leonard instead is on a three-plus-one $176.3 million contract in which he can reenter free agency in 2024.

Leonard, however, will be eligible to sign an extension in 2023. Leonard almost certainly will miss the entire 21-22 season, which would make his extension eligibility coincide with his first season back.

Kawhi Leonard Signs Four-Year, $176.3M Deal With Clippers

Aug 12, 2021 9:32 PM

Kawhi Leonard has signed a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers worth $176.3 million, which includes a player option for Year 4.

When Leonard first joined the Clippers, he signed a two-plus-one contract. Leonard declined his $36 million player option for 21-22 to become a free agent this offseason. Leonard was always widely expected to re-sign with the Clippers.

Leonard suffered a torn ACL in the Western Conference Semifinals and could miss the entire 21-22 season.

“Kawhi is a transcendent player and a relentless worker who improves himself every day,” said Lawrence Frank. “We share many of the same goals, which include a long-term relationship. This agreement marks another important moment for our franchise and our fans, as we strive to create a championship-caliber organization, where players find the success and fulfillment they seek. We’re eager to continue building with Kawhi. For now, we will do whatever we can to support him in his recovery from injury. We look forward to seeing him back where he wants to be, on the court with his teammates.”

Paul George signed a four-year, $190 million extension last December. Both Clippers' stars have player options in their contracts aligned for the 24-25 season.

DeMar DeRozan Agreed To Deal With Bulls While Clippers Were In Transit For Meeting

Aug 5, 2021 11:14 AM

DeMar DeRozan was preparing to meet with the Los Angeles Clippers about one hour before he came to terms with the Chicago Bulls on a three-year, $85 million deal. The Clippers would have had to clear cap space to sign DeRozan in the form of Luke Kennard, Patrick Beverly and possibly other players, so they would have had to realistic use a sign-and-trade to acquire him.

DeRozan was not prepared to sign with any team at the midlevel exception or taxpayer midlevel.

Talks with the Bulls progressed to a deal for DeRozan and the Clippers were informed while they were in transit that a deal had been reached. DeRozan was also preparing to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Marc Eversley was cited as a big factor in Chicago's ability to sign DeRozan. Eversley was familiar with DeRozan from their days with the Toronto Raptors.
