Report: 76ers Decline 18-19 Option On Jahlil Okafor

Oct 31, 2017 6:50 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers will not pick up the fourth-year option on Jahlil Okafor.

Okafor was the third overall pick in the 2015 draft but the 76ers are maintaining cap flexibility for the 2018 offseason.

The 76ers have been attempting to trade Okafor but no deal is imminent.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, Okafor could pursue a buyout with the 76ers for the final season of his contract.

Ben Simmons is averaging 18.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 7.7 assists in 35.0 minutes per game over his first seven NBA games. Simmons also a PER of 21.5, but he thought he'd be playing better.

“I thought I’d be playing better, honestly,” Simmons said. “I need to pick it up. It’s awesome [being in the NBA]. I wouldn’t want to do anything else. I love what I do. I’m just grateful to be here, just got to keep working.”

Simmons missed the entire 16-17 season due to a foot injury after he was the first overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Simmons was asked how developing a consistent outside shot would help his game.

“It’s going to be pretty tough to guard me,” he said.

Doc Rivers: J.J. Redick Begged To Re-Sign With Clippers

Oct 31, 2017 3:37 PM

J.J. Redick left the Los Angeles Clippers in the offseason to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. For months, Redick was mentioned in the media as a player likely to leave the Clippers but Doc Rivers maintains Redick wanted to re-sign with the Clippers.

"Who controls the culture?" Rivers asked while indirectly responding to comments from Chris Paul about the Clippers. "The players. Always the players. And even with Chris' comments, he thought about coming back. J.J. was begging to come back."

Redick has a different assessment of his free agency.

"There was never any indication from my agent that I wanted to go back," said Redick. "I didn't beg to come back. I didn't want to come back."

Markelle Fultz Out At Least Three Weeks With Shoulder Injury

Oct 30, 2017 12:21 AM

Markelle Fultz is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury and won't be re-examined until three weeks from now.

Fultz does not have any structural damage in his ailing right shoulder but is dealing with soreness and muscle imbalance.

Fultz has played in just four NBA games and has resisted jump shots while relying almost exclusively on drives to the basket.

There has been confusion as to whether Fultz's shooting tweak caused the injury or began because of the injury.

Markelle Fultz Had Fluid Drained From Shoulder, Will Visit Specialist

Oct 24, 2017 4:07 PM

Markelle Fultz had fluid drained from his right shoulder and is planning to visit a specialist.

"Markelle had a shoulder injury and fluid drained out of the back of his shoulder," agent Raymond Brothers told ESPN. "He literally cannot raise up his arms to shoot the basketball. He decided to try and fight through the pain to help the team. He has a great attitude. We are committed to finding a solution to get Markelle back to 100 percent."

Fultz has continued to play through the injury despite being unable to shoot normally.

Fultz is shooting 33 percent (9 of 27) from the floor and 50 percent (6 of 12) from the free throw line. He has averaged 19 minutes in the Sixers' four games.

"From a basketball perspective, it's been encouraging to see that Markelle can get any shot he wants during the games, but he has been unable to shoot the ball," Brothers told ESPN.

Joel Embiid: The Process Will Never Reach 100 Percent

Oct 21, 2017 11:54 PM

Joel Embiid has embodied Sam Hinkie's "process" for the Philadelphia 76ers more than any other player and he's embraced the mentality. Embiid talks about it constantly and he's even given himself that as his nickname.

In March, Embiid described the process as being a loading bar going from 0 to 100 percent and that he was at 5-10 percent. Embiid was asked where he is now.

"The Process is never going to end," said Embiid. "I don’t think The Process is ever going to reach 100 percent. It’s a process to make the playoffs. It’s another one to make the conference final. Another one to make it to the NBA finals and win the championship. And when you win the championship that year, then it starts all over again. So it’s just a cycle. Then it applies to work within your life whenever you’ve got something going on and you know that as long as you put in the work, you’ve just got to trust the process. Everything happens for a reason."
