Jazz Unable To Agree Upon Extension With George Hill

Feb 28, 2017 4:34 PM

The Utah Jazz were unable to agree upon a contract extension with George Hill.

The Jazz could have given Hill the remainder of their cap space this season and an extension of up to three years with annual raises of 7.5 percent.

The best offer Utah could make to Hill is for $88.3 million to be committed to the Jazz through the 2019-20 season, which computes to a three-year, $74.7 million extension plus $13.6 million this season.

The Jazz remain interested in re-signing Hill in the offseason. Hill was advised he can get a much better deal on the open market than he could at this time with an extension.

George Hill, Jazz In Talks On Extension

Feb 28, 2017 1:06 PM

The Utah Jazz and George Hill are engaged in talks on a contract extension before Tuesday's deadline.

Hill has recently declined to discuss a potential contract extension but told ESPN in November that he was "very interested" in the idea. Sources said the Jazz are determined to keep Hill for the long term even if extension terms can't be reached Tuesday and Hill decides he would rather test the open market starting July 1.

The Jazz can give Hill the remainder of their cap space this season and an extension of up to three years with annual raises of 7.5 percent.

The best offer Utah can make Hill is for $88.3 million to be committed to the Jazz through the 2019-20 season, which computes to a three-year, $74.7 million extension plus $13.6 million this season.

During the 16-17 season, Williams is averaging 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 29.3 minutes per game.

The Jazz also have George Hill and Dante Exum on their depth chart at point guard.

Jazz Sell Jersey Sponsorship To Qualtrics

Feb 13, 2017 3:46 PM

The Utah Jazz have sold their jersey sponsorship to Qualtrics, a Utah-based data and analytics research firm.

Instead of the Qualtrics logo on the jersey, a 5 For The Fight logo will be on the jerseys for at least the first season of the three-year deal between the two sides. 5 For The Fight is a charitable organization trying to eliminate cancer with $5 donations at a time with the goal of raising at least $50 million.

The Jazz are the first to forsake a corporate logo for a charitable one.

“This is the right thing to do,” Qualtrics CEO Ryan Smith said. “As much as I would love to put Qualtrics on it, this idea of raising $50 million for cancer research was something we couldn’t stop thinking about it. The Jazz were open to our ideas and how we wanted to use the patch.”

“If you think about the symmetry … 5 For the Fight and five players on the court working together as a team and then you think about our fans who feel pride when they buy that jersey, now they can feel pride about the cause that that team is affiliated with and something we can all rally behind,” Jazz president Steve Starks said. “We think it’s really special and an opportunity to use the Jazz as a platform to do good. Credit to Qualtrics for thinking creatively and altruistically.”
