Hamidou Diallo Fined $20K For Making Contact With Game Official

Feb 28, 2022 9:20 AM

Detroit Pistons wing Hamidou Diallo was fined $20,000 for making contact with a game official. Midway through the second quarter in Saturday afternoon's loss to the Boston Celtics, Diallo pushed off on a referee while running down the court.

The play was reviewed for a hostile act. Diallo was assessed a technical foul and ejected from the game for making contact with the official. Diallo and Pistons coach Dwayne Casey protested the ruling, feeling the contact was incidental and not hostile.

Marvin Bagley: I Felt Like A Weight Was Taken Off My Back

Feb 25, 2022 4:36 PM

Marvin Bagley III has long sought a trade from the Sacramento Kings and finally got his wish shortly before the deadline when he was dealt to the Detroit Pistons.

Bagley was the second overall pick by the Kings in 2018, but he had an uneven tenure with the team. The Pistons had been rumored to have interest in Bagley for several months.

“I felt like a weight was taken off my back,” Bagley said. “I felt like I could have fun playing basketball. Being in a new environment, new facility, new teammates, new faces, I think that’s what I needed. To finally get that, I’m going to make the most of the opportunity.”

The Pistons wanted an opportunity to evaluate Bagley before he becomes a restricted free agent.

“This whole thing has been a different experience for me,” Bagley said after Thursday’s win. “I’ve never been traded before. Coming from the West Coast to the East Coast, that in itself is a different thing for me. Learning new faces, new names and trying to build relationships with people. I’m continuing to learn the place, learn the city, get out in the city more. There are a lot of things I’m looking forward to doing while I’m here. I’m just going to embrace it and keep building off what we have here. We can take this thing to the next level. I’m excited about that.”

Cade Cunningham Named MVP Of Rising Stars Challenge

Feb 19, 2022 8:27 AM

Detroit Pistons rookie guard Cade Cunningham was named MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend. Cunningham helped lead Team Barry to the inaugural Rising Stars Challenge championship.

In the two-game tournament, the first set of games were each played to a 50-point target score. The final was then played to a 25-point target score. The 75-point total target was in honor of the NBA's 75th anniversary season.

In Team Barry's first game, Cunningham scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out six assists. He also added a steal and two blocks. In the championship, Cunningham added five points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal.

The new format featured three intense endings to each game. As teams closed in on the target score, there was an uncharacteristic amount of defense played in the exhibition games. All players involved seemed to enjoy the new format.

Marvin Bagley To Pistons, Donte DiVincenzo To Kings, Bucks Get Serge Ibaka In Four-Team Trade

Feb 10, 2022 4:41 PM

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to trade Marvin Bagley III to the Detroit Pistons as part of a four-team trade. Detroit has long been linked with a deal for Bagley, who was picked second overall in 2018 and has had a disappointing tenure with the Kings.

The Kings will acquire Donte DiVincenzo from the Milwaukee Bucks. Sacramento will also acquire Josh Jackson and Trey Lyles from the Pistons.

Milwaukee will acquire Serge Ibaka from the Los Angeles Clippers. With Brook Lopez out with a back injury, the Bucks needed to upgrade the center position.

The Kings previously tried to acquired DiVincenzo as part of the proposed Bogdan Bogdanovic sign-and-trade with the Bucks.

The Clippers will receive Semi Ojeleye and Rodney Hood from the Bucks.

James L. Edwards III reports the Pistons hope to sign Bagley to a multiyear deal in the offseason. Bagley will likely have a qualifying offer of $7.2 million as a restricted free agent. Troy Weaver had Bagley on his wish list since joining the Pistons in 2020.

The Detroit Pistons continue to engage on a trade of Jerami Grant, but it could eventually be resolved in the offseason. The Pistons are seeking two first round picks in exchange for Grant.

The Portland Trail Blazers are one of the teams most interest in Grant, though it could necessitate a third team's involvement.

"I think right now it may ultimately be an offseason process for Jerami Grant," said Adrian Wojnarowski.

Grant is signed through the 22-23 season and is eligible for an extension this offseason.

Wizards, Kings, Blazers Show Most Interest In Trading For Jerami Grant

Feb 7, 2022 10:33 AM

While James Harden and Ben Simmons appear a little more likely to be traded than they were a few weeks ago, Jerami Grant could still become the biggest name actually moved at the deadline.

Grant is in Year 2 of a three-year contract with the Detroit Pistons and is seeking an extension.

The Pistons aren't "handcuffed" to Grant at the deadline, sources tell James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. Grant also is not assured of being traded.

The Washington Wizards, Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers have shown the most interest in trading for Grant, sources tell The Athletic. The Brooklyn Nets have also expressed interest, but a deal with them is not considered likely.

Jazz Have Discussed Trades For Harrison Barnes, Jerami Grant

Feb 3, 2022 3:32 PM

The Utah Jazz are targeting wings that can defend on the trade market ahead of next week's deadline.

The Jazz have had trade talks with the Sacramento Kings on Harrison Barnes and with the Detroit Pistons on Jerami Grant. Barnes almost certainly would require a lesser trade offer to acquire than Grant.

The Jazz lost Joe Ingles for the seasons this week, but they could use his expiring contract to make the money work.
