Three Ejected After Confrontation In Magic-Pistons Game

Dec 29, 2022 9:45 AM

With just over 33 seconds to play in the first half of their Wednesday game, chaos broke out between the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons. Following a turnover, Moritz Wagner of Orlando forcefully bumped Killian Hayes of the Pistons into the Detroit bench.

Multiple Pistons confronted Wagner, most noticeably Hamidou Diallo, who shoved Wagner. Hayes got up and appeared to throw a punch at Wagner that connected.

That brought several Magic players into the fray. Video appeared to show several Orlando players leave their bench area during the dustup.

After a lengthy review, the officials ejected Wagner for committing a Flagrant 2 foul and Diallo and Hayes for escalating the confrontation. Pistons coach Dwane Casey questioned after the game why the Magic players who left their bench were also not ejected.

The NBA is expected to hand down multiple fines, and possibly suspensions, after reviewing the incident.

Pistons Sign Troy Weaver To Extension

Dec 21, 2022 3:27 PM

The Detroit Pistons signed Troy Weaver to an extension over the summer.

Weaver became the franchise's GM in June, 2020, signing a four-year contract.

The Pistons have the NBA's worst record, but have a promising young core around Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons went 20-52 in Weaver's first season, when COVID-19 canceled the Pistons' final 10 games.

Pistons Tell Rival Teams They Intend To Keep Bojan Bogdanovic

Dec 18, 2022 6:17 PM

The Detroit Pistons have had many suitors for Bojan Bogdanovic over the last several weeks. The Los Angeles Lakers, and others, have tried to pry the scoring wing away from Detroit. But the Pistons continue to tell teams that they don't intend to trade Bogdanovic.

Detroit wants to keep the veteran scorer to help a healthy Cade Cunningham. The Pistons believe that with Cunningham back, along with Bogdanovic, that their young core can make a playoff push next season.

Bogdanovic signed a two-year, $39 million extension shortly after the season started. Next season is fully guaranteed at $20 million, while the 2024-25 season is only partially guaranteed for $2 million.

Patrick Beverley Could Seek Buyout And Return To Wolves If Traded

Dec 15, 2022 9:08 AM

Patrick Beverley's name has been bandied about in trade rumors, as the Los Angeles Lakers seek to upgrade their roster. Beverley's $13 million contract is the Lakers best piece of salary-matching in a deal, assuming a Russell Westbrook deal is off the table.

Los Angeles is rumored to have offered Beverley to the Detroit Pistons as part of a deal for Bojan Bogdanovic. However, the Pistons wanted an unprotected first-round pick and the deal never progressed.

If traded to a rebuilding team, Beverley will reportedly seek a buyout. Beverley would then look to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite trading him this summer, the Wolves would be eligible to re-sign Beverley after a buyout. This is because Beverley would have been moved on from the Utah Jazz, who were the original acquiring team.

Pistons Seeking Unprotected First Rounder For Saddiq Bey

Dec 15, 2022 8:36 AM

The Detroit Pistons are known to be open to making trades. The Pistons have engaged in trade talks for veterans Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel. One surprising player Detroit is open to trading is Saddiq Bey.

However, the Pistons have a big ask in return for Bey. Detroit wants an unprotected first-round pick for the third-year forward.

Bey's role for the Pistons has been in some flux this season. He opened the year as a starter but was moved to the bench when Detroit went to two-big lineups to open games.

Bey has the remainder of this season and next season left on his rookie scale contract. He'll be extension-eligible this summer.

Pistons Open To Trading Saddiq Bey For 'Right Price'

Dec 13, 2022 8:31 AM

The Detroit Pistons are listening when they get trade calls on a number of veterans on their roster. Detroit is also, somewhat surprisingly, open to listening when they get calls about third-year forward Saddiq Bey.

Bey is having an up-and-down year, as he's gone back and forth from starting to coming off the bench. After acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic, the Pistons opened the season with Bey and Bogdanovic starting together. In recent weeks, they've transitioned to starting two traditional big men and bringing Bey off the bench.

That has Detroit open to moving Bey for the "right price". What that "right price" is remains an open question. It is clear that the Pistons aren't shutting down suitors though.

Cade Cunningham Out For Season With Surgery On Left Shin

Dec 12, 2022 6:06 PM

Cade Cunningham will undergo season-ending surgery on his left shin. Cunningham took a month to see if rest and rehabilitation would allow for the shin to improve but made the decision on Monday to move forward with the season-ending procedure.

Cunningham is expected to make a full recovery before the Detroit Pistons begin training camp in 2023.

Cunningham played in just 12 games this season, averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 33.4 minutes. Cunningham was the No. 1 draft pick in the 2021 draft out of Oklahoma State.
