Kawhi Leonard Has Told Clippers He'd Welcome Trade For A Point Guard

Jan 29, 2023 8:13 PM

The LA Clippers have been linked to several high-profile point guards on the trade market. This is reportedly after Kawhi Leonard told the Clippers he'd welcome an addition at the lead guard spot.

LA has reportedly expressed interest in trading for Mike Conley of the Utah Jazz, Kyle Lowry of the Miami Heat and Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors. Leonard won the 2019 NBA Finals while teammates with Lowry and VanVleet in Toronto.

The Clippers can put together the necessary contracts to add the large salaries of any of the veteran point guards. They can also offer win-now veteran talent to teams looking to remain in the playoff hunt, or looking to reset quickly for next season. In addition, the Clippers haven't shied away from taking on additional salary in recent years.

Fred VanVleet Drawing Interest From Several Teams, Including Magic

Jan 26, 2023 12:51 AM

Fred VanVleet is drawing trade interest from several teams, including the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, and Orlando Magic, sources told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

The Magic are reportedly looking to bring in a point guard for the long term to develop next to their young talent, which assumes that VanVleet would re-sign with the team should he get traded.

VanVleet is widely expected to opt out of his player option this summer.

Clippers Interested In Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet

Jan 24, 2023 3:31 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers have previously been linked with interest in Mike Conley, but sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer that they're also interested in Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet. The Clippers can only trade a first round pick in 2028, but they own all of their second round picks beyond 2027. They also have workable contracts for salary matching.

The point guard position has been an area of need for the Clippers as John Wall and Reggie Jackson have struggled.

Lowry makes $28.3 million this season and has been in evident decline since joining the Miami Heat in 2021.

VanVleet will be a free agent this offseason and figures to receive a raise on his $22.8 million salary.

Kawhi Leonard was previously teammates with both Lowry and VanVleet during his lone season with the Toronto Raptors.

Terance Mann Could Be Clippers' Long-Term Starting Point Guard

Jan 23, 2023 12:27 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers believe Terance Mann could become their starting point guard beyond this season, a source told Law Murray of The Athletic.

Tyronn Lue, however, ideally views Mann as a small forward. Lue would prefer to keep a traditional point guard in the Clippers' rotation.

Mann is signed through the 24-25 season after agreeing to a two-year, $22 million extension in 2021.

The emergence of Mann at point guard could make John Wall expendable.

Clippers Not Considering Trade Of Kawhi Leonard

Jan 23, 2023 12:23 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers are not considering trading Kawhi Leonard, sources tell Law Murray of The Athletic.

The Clippers have had a frustrating season and have struggled to evaluate their roster due to the inconsistency of when their players are available to play.

Leonard has a trade kicker in his contract and cannot become a free agent until 2024.

Leonard is averaging 20.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 30.8 minutes over 24 games this season.

Clippers Interested In Trade For Mike Conley

Jan 16, 2023 8:52 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers are going to be without backup point guard John Wall for at least two weeks. Wall has an abdominal strain that will keep him out of action for the Clippers, who are battling to stay out of the Western Conference Play-In Tournament.

Wall's absence, and overall concerns about their point guard depth, has LA interested in trading for Mike Conley of the Utah Jazz. After a great start to the season, the Jazz have slipped to 10th in the West, and are on the precipice of missing the postseason. That has some believing Utah could look to move some veterans at the trade deadline.

In his 16th NBA season, Conley's play has started to slip. He's averaging 10.2 points, which is his lowest figure since his rookie season. Conley is also shooting just 38% from the field. On the flip side, the veteran point guard is averaging a career-high 7.5 assists per game.

John Wall Out At Least Two Weeks With Abdominal Strain

Jan 15, 2023 3:22 PM

The LA Clippers announced that John Wall has an abdominal strain. Wall will be reevaluated in two weeks.

Wall was injured during the Clippers loss on Friday night to the Denver Nuggets. Wall was in the midst of a strong game with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists when he was hurt.

With Wall out, LA coach Ty Lue said that Reggie Jackson will be elevated to the backup point guard role. Last week, the Clippers installed Terance Mann as their starting point guard and Jackson was removed from the rotation.

In his first season with the Clippers, Wall has averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists in 22.2 minutes per game off the bench. The 12-year veteran had returned to the court after sitting out all of last season while with the Houston Rockets.
