Kendrick Nunn Believes He's Early Rookie Of The Year Favorite

Nov 27, 2019 6:03 PM

Kendrick Nunn went undrafted in 2018 due to off the court issues in college and spent last season in the G League. Nunn is technically a rookie at the age of 24 as this is his first NBA season. With Zion Williamson missing the first part of the season, the Rookie of the Year race will likely include Nunn and Ja Morant.

"I definitely feel like I'm the Rookie of the Year," Nunn told Shams Charania. "It's early, but the way I've been performing, I'm definitely in the running for that. Hopefully I can continue this through the season and win that award."

Nunn signed with the Heat at the end of the 18-19 season, but didn't appear in any games.

Jimmy Butler On Sixers Reunion: 'Obviously, Something Happened'

Nov 24, 2019 2:21 PM

Jimmy Butler told Michael Lee of The Athletic that there was a reason why he didn't re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers over last offseason, through did not go into detail.

“Obviously, something happened. We’re not going to say what it was. We’re not going to go into detail. We can’t keep living on that. They can’t. But I’m happy, man. It brings me joy, being around this group of guys (in Miami). I don’t regret nothing, you feel me?” Butler told The Athletic.

Butler was mostly jeered during his return to Philadelphia in the Heat's 113-86 loss to the Sixers. Butler finished with 11 points.

About the boos, Butler said that Sixers fans didn't know what happened behind the scenes that lead him to signing with the Heat.

“I didn’t do too much wrong by the fanbase here. Nobody knows what really went on, besides the organization and myself. My agent. And my people. I don’t know how to take it. They’re diehard fans. I’m not here no more. I’m the enemy. I mean, you don’t got to like me ‘cause I’m on the other team. I’m OK with that. I really am. They don’t know what’s going on. I love fans. I love my fans. But you don’t know what happened.”

76ers Never Offered Jimmy Butler Full Five-Year Max Contract

Nov 21, 2019 12:15 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers did not offer Jimmy Butler a five-year maximum contract offer on June 30th, according to multiple sources.

The 76ers possibly pivoted in another direction when they learned of Al Horford's interest.

There was perhaps concern about tension between Butler and other players on the team as well as the coaching staff. Like other teams, the 76ers likely wondered how Butler would age.

Butler ultimately orchestrated a sign-and-trade to the Miami Heat.

Dion Waiters To Seek Advice From Jim Boeheim, Work Out At Syracuse

Nov 19, 2019 1:51 AM

Dion Waiters said he will meet with Jim Boeheim as he serves out his 10-game suspension with the Miami Heat.

“I just wanted to come up and talk to Coach. I know that’s a person who will always be there for me if I ever need anything. It’s a chance for me to come up, be around, talk to the coaches, things like that," said Waiters, who plans on working out with the Syracuse team.

Waiters added that he was in a good mental state.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I’m in a great place. I can only control what I can control at the end of the day, so some things you just can’t allow to take your head the other way, some things happen for a reason. If you stay locked in, if you believe and trust in yourself, trust in the work you put in, you know, it’s a minor setback. It happens. It’s life. You learn from it. The only thing I can do is move forward. Stay focused. Stay even-keeled. Let everything else take care of itself.”

Heat Won't Receive Hard Cap Relief With Dion Waiters' Bonus Becoming Unlikely

Nov 11, 2019 3:32 PM

Dion Waiters will soon become ineligible to obtain a $1.2 million bonus that's tied to playing in at least 70 regular season games. But the Miami Heat will not receive relief against the hard cap with it becoming unlikely.

The Heat are hard-capped this season after acquiring Jimmy Butler in a sign-and-trade.

"That Waiters bonus, which is that $1.2 million, is kind of holding them back a little bit," said Bobby Marks. "I've talked to people around the league and got confirmation that even when it's deemed unlikely and he does not reach it, if it's next week, the league is not going to remove that $1.2 million number towards the hard cap until after the season."

Marks explained the NBA views the situation as a salary cap loophole and that a team in Miami's situation shouldn't benefit from the bonus becoming unlikely.
