Kelly Olynyk, Derrick Jones Traded By Heat To Mavs Instead Of Goran Dragic

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones from the Miami Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN previously reported Goran Dragic would go to the Mavericks. The Mavericks couldn't take back Dragic because they feared losing their flexibility to make additional moves this offseason.

The Dallas Mavericks had agreed to acquire Goran Dragic from the Miami Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The Heat needed to send out additional salary to absorb Butler.

But Marc Stein of the New York Times reports that the Mavericks will instead acquire Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones.

The Miami Heat are finalizing a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers for Jimmy Butler.

The 76ers will acquire Josh Richardson as part of the deal.

Butler wanted to have a team built around him, while the 76ers reportedly were also ready to move on. The 76ers weren't willing to give Butler a five-year max or even a four-year max.

Miami previously tried to acquire Butler last season.

Butler will meet with the Houston Rockets later in the week.

Both the Heat and Rockets would need the Philadelphia 76ers to facilitate a sign-and-trade for Butler.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are also interested in Butler, according to Shams Charania.

Heat Discuss Trade For J.R. Smith's Contract With Cavaliers

The Miami Heat have expressed interest in a salary-designed trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers for J.R. Smith.

Smith's contract counts for more than $15 million for trade purposes but the receiving team will only be committed to paying him $3.8 million. Smith's contract with grandfathered into the current CBA when it comes to salary matching. The receiving team can stretch Smith's $3.8 million over three years to create even more cap space.

Smith signed the creatively designed contract after the 2016 Finals.
