Dwight Howard: I Never Recovered From Dwightmare Period

Sep 19, 2017 4:54 PM

Dwight Howard's future with the Orlando Magic and long dragged out exit dominated the NBA landscape in 2012 and he feels like the period has continued to plague his career five years later.  Lee Jenkins writes that "Howard can't stop reliving" some of the details of his Dwightmare period.

“In a lot of ways, I feel like I never recovered,” said Howard.

Howard played through a torn labrum with the Los Angeles Lakers in an effort to regain his reputation around the NBA.

“I lost confidence in who I am as a player,” he recalls. “I’d hear people say, ‘You should play more like Shaq,’ so I tried to bully guys. But that didn’t work because I’m not as big as Shaq. Then I’d hear people say, ‘You smile too much, you should be more like Kobe,’ so I tried to put on a mean face and play mad. But I wound up getting all these stupid techs and flagrant fouls.”

Hornets Will Still Start Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Sep 10, 2017 10:27 AM

The Charlotte Hornets will start Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at small forward again this season. There has been some support amongst fans for the Hornets to start Malik Monk over Kidd-Gilchrist due to his superior shooting.

“MKG – everybody wants to know – he’ll start and I think he’ll have a great year,” Steve Clifford said.

“Spacing is the basic tenant of offensive basketball,” Clifford said, acknowledging Kidd-Gilchrist’s limited shooting range. “But it’s not as important as competitiveness, it’s not as important as character, and it’s not as important as natural talent.

“He is a natural athlete. He has a feel for the game, he’s a tough guy who cares about the team, and I think he can be one of the top 10 defenders in the league this year.”

Michael Carter-Williams Underwent PRP Surgery In Both Knees

Sep 8, 2017 4:47 PM

Michael Carter-Williams underwent surgery on both knees in mid-July that could keep him out of the preseason.

Clifford said Carter-Williams isn’t cleared to work out with teammates on the court.

Carter-Williams had Platelet-Rich Plasma treatments on the patella tendons in both knees. Doctors extract blood from a patient, extract platelets from the whole blood, and inject the PRP back in a damaged area.
