Cavaliers In Trade Talks With Timberwolves, Pistons For No. 2 Pick

May 28, 2011 4:03 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons about a three-team trade that would give Cleveland the top two picks of next month's NBA draft.

The Cavaliers would use the picks to select Duke point guard Kyrie Irving and Arizona forward Derrick Williams, the sources said.

In the trade being discussed, Cleveland would absorb Detroit's Richard Hamilton into the $14.6 million trade exception it received in last summer's LeBron James sign-and-trade with Miami, while also receiving the Pistons' No. 8 pick. The Cavaliers would then send that pick, along with their fourth pick, to Minnesota for the Timberwolves' second pick.

Cleveland would then buy Hamilton out of the $25 million remaining in the last two years on his contract, leaving the veteran shooting guard free to sign with another club as a free agent.

Stuckey Switches Agents For Fifth Time

May 21, 2011 3:41 PM

Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey has changed agents — again.

Stuckey, who will become a restricted free agent in six weeks if there is no NBA lockout, left Seattle-based Steve Banks in favor of Leon Rose.

Rose is the agent for LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Pistons teammate Richard Hamilton. Rose is Stuckey's fifth agent since 2007. Banks, who declined comment, began working with Stuckey when he was drafted by the Pistons and Stuckey was represented by Goodwin Sports Management.

Stuckey left Goodwin in September 2009, and he and Banks reunited in January 2010. Stuckey didn't receive a contract extension by the Nov. 1 deadline, making him a restricted free agent.

There were reports that Stuckey was unhappy about not receiving an extension, especially after Memphis Mike Conley received one days before the deadline (5 years/$45 million).

Cavs Win Lottery; Wolves Second, Jazz Third

May 17, 2011 11:24 PM

Ten months after LeBron James left the team as a free agent, the Cavaliers took a major step toward rebuilding their franchise by winning the first overall pick in Tuesday's draft lottery.

Ironically, the ping pong ball that bounced Cleveland's way was attached to the Clippers' selection, which the team acquired in the Baron Davis trade, not their own. The latter pick fell to fourth despite the Cavaliers having the second-best chance at taking one of the top three spots, given that the team owned the league's second-worst record.

The Wolves, with the NBA's worst record, took the second selection and the Jazz will pick third, by way of the pick Utah acquired from New Jersey in the trade of Deron Williams to the Nets.

Full lottery results are as follows:

1.  Cleveland (via Clippers)

2.  Minnesota

3.  Utah (via Nets)

4.  Cleveland

5.  Toronto

6.  Washington

7.  Sacramento

8.  Detroit

9.  Charlotte

10.  Milwaukee

11.  Golden State

12.  Utah

13.  Phoenix

14.  Houston

Pistons' Monroe To Give Up Number Out Of Respect For Rodman

May 12, 2011 4:24 PM

Before Dennis Rodman’s No. 10 was hung from the Palace rafters during an April ceremony, he gave the current Detroit Pistons No. 10 his blessing to keep wearing it.

But Greg Monroe said this week that he has too much respect for the past to keep the jersey. He plans to wear a new number next season, though it hasn't been determined which one.

"They told me I could keep it, but just out of respect, I think I'm going to change my number," Monroe told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Pistons Refuse Comment On Grant Hill's Claims Of Medical Mistreatment

May 5, 2011 10:20 AM

The Pistons are not commenting on the recent comments Grant Hill made about the foot injury and subsequent treatment he received from the Pistons and Orlando Magic medical staffs during the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons.

Robert Teitge, the team's orthopedic surgeon when Hill was a Piston, did not return two phone calls from the Free Press, and Arnie Kander, the team's strength and conditioning coach, was advised not to speak on the matter by current management with the potential sale of the team pending.

"The health of our players is and always has been the No. 1 priority of our organization," said Kevin Grigg, the team's vice president of public relations.

Griffin Becomes First Unanimous ROY Since Robinson

May 4, 2011 4:44 PM

Blake Griffin is the recipient of the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy as the 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year, the National Basketball Association announced. Griffin is the first unanimous Rookie of the Year selection since David Robinson in 1989-90, receiving 118 first-place votes (590 points) from an equal number of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Other than Griffin and Robinson, the only other unanimous selection since the award’s inception was Ralph Sampson in 1983-84.

"Foremost Blake is a team first guy, which was evident in all 82 games this season,” stated Vice President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey. “His work ethic, production and commitment to his coaches and teammates during his rookie campaign was unparalleled in my eight year tenure with the Clipper organization. I know being named Rookie of the Year was one of the individual goals he set for himself when we drafted him and I'm thrilled that all of his hard work has been recognized."

Finishing second was John Wall with 295 points, followed by DeMarcus Cousins, Landry Fields, Gary Neal and Greg Monroe.
