Little Trade Interest In Hamilton

Jan 30, 2011 10:05 AM

There has been little trade interest in Richard Hamilton, who hasn't suited up for the Pistons since Jan. 10.

Detroit was hoping to send Hamilton to New Jersey as part of the Carmelo Anthony trade that fell apart earlier this month.

Teams like Boston and Dallas appear interested in Hamilton, but only if his contract is bought out.

The guard has two years and $25 million -- $21.5 million guaranteed -- remaining on his contract.

Kuester Insists He's Made Effort With Hamilton

Jan 25, 2011 7:10 AM

Pistons coach John Kuester insists he's made an attempt to sit down and talk with Richard Hamilton.

Hamilton claims he was approached by longtime head of team security Jerry Hendon to speak with Kuester and was offended.

"We've reached out, and we have the open-door policy," Kuester said. "There's a combination (of responsibility). Anytime a player need to talk, my door is always open."

Hamilton hasn't played in Detroit's last eight games.

"You get into a number of things, talking about players," Kuester said. "Rip has meant so much to this organization.

"Unfortunately, we weren't playing well and I had to make a tough decision."

Hamilton Didn't Agree With Kuester's Use Of Middleman

Jan 24, 2011 5:19 PM

Richard Hamilton wasn't happy that when coach John Kuester tried to reach out to him over the weekend he went through the team's head of security, Jerry Hendon.

"I felt offended that he sent Jerry instead of coming himself or sending an assistant coach," Hamilton told the Detroit Free Press.

"I could tell Jerry was uncomfortable and I said no."

Benched for seven straight games, Hamilton hasn't discussed the matter with Kuester.

Kuester told reporters he had tried to connect with Hamilton, but he didn't offer specifics.

"We made overtures and one of the things that's important is he is somebody that's on our team now," Kuester said before Saturday's game.

"We know that and we've reached out to him."

Kuester Has Reached Out To Hamilton

Jan 23, 2011 8:05 PM

Pistons coach John Kuester says he has reached out to Richard Hamilton, who has been held out of the team's last seven games.

He didn't say how or when, but Kuester told the media that he tried to make a connection with Hamilton.

"We made overtures and one of the things that's important is he is somebody that's on our team now," said Kuester.

"We know that and we've reached out to him. I'll tell you this right now, like what I said before; we're searching and we've got a nice run right now with the players that we have and they've done a real good job and unfortunately somebody had to probably be out of the mix right now. But that doesn't mean you're going to totally be out of the mix."

Hamilton might be needed and Kuester will need to mend fences with Detroit's injuries and a trade not on the horizon.

Hamilton Still Uncertain Of Role In Detroit

Jan 22, 2011 11:58 AM

Richard Hamilton says no one in the Detroit organization has told him why he hasn't played in six straight games.

Hamilton was rumored to be part of a three-team trade with the Nets and Nuggets that would have brought him to New Jersey, but the deal fell apart on Wednesday night.

Pistons coach John Kuester said he was simply trying to shake up his rotation when Hamilton was benched more than a week ago.

"You know they sat me down and you hear all these different allegations for why they sat me down and things like that," Hamilton said.

"It was crazy to me because I want to play basketball. I want to get out there and perform, that's all I have been doing since I have been in the NBA."

Hamilton is still waiting for either Kuester or president Joe Dumars to speak with him.

"It's the same thing as the whole situation went on, no one is telling me what is going on," the guard said. "It's one of those things, you give to your team for the last nine years your blood, sweat and tears and you never expect nothing like that to happen. But it happened."

Nets, Nuggets Can't Agree On Framework Of Deal

Jan 19, 2011 6:48 AM

The holdup over the proposed Carmelo Anthony trade is over the framework of the blockbuster deal, not the forward's willingness to commit to the Nets, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Though they appeared very close to a finalized deal 11 days ago, the teams are still discussing what New Jersey would send to Denver.

The Nets have offered to send six players and at least two first-round draft picks to the Nuggets in exchange for Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Detroit's Richard Hamilton.

However, the exact details of the trade haven't been agreed upon by either side.

The source added that the Nets aren't concerned about getting Anthony to agree to a three-year, $65 million contract as long as they can get the three-team trade completed.

Talks resumed Tuesday, but little progress was made.

Hamilton Benched Again, Fans Chant For Him

Jan 18, 2011 8:48 AM

Richard Hamilton was benched for the fourth straight game on Monday night as Detroit defeated Dallas.

Fans chanted "We want Rip!" several times during the game.

"It's not a thing that you want in a way because you want to be out there playing," Hamilton said. "You want them cheering for you out there playing, and things like that.

"It's just a thing they appreciate you, and I appreciate them so much for the last nine years that I've been here, and they've been incredible to me. They just want to see me out there, but it is what it is, so you just try to stay patient and try to keep a smile on your face."

The Pistons have been holding Hamilton out amid trade rumors. Detroit is part of the three-team deal with New Jersey and Denver that would send Carmelo Anthony to the Nets.

Nets Still Trying To Schedule Meeting With Anthony

Jan 18, 2011 8:44 AM

The Nets are still trying to schedule a meeting with Carmelo Anthony so they can discuss a possible contract extension, according to sources.

The rumored three-team trade involving the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons hinges on New Jersey selling Anthony on an extension.

Anthony has not indicated that he's open to an extension with the Nets and told reporters on Sunday that he wasn't aware of any set meeting on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The NBA would have no issue with a meeting between the Nets and Anthony so long as the Nuggets are made aware and grant permission.

Nets Haven't Been Granted Permission To Talk With Carmelo

Jan 17, 2011 5:28 PM

The Nets have not yet been granted permission to meet with Carmelo Anthony, according to a league source.

New Jersey may eventually receive permission from Denver, but they hadn't as of Monday.

Anthony said following a loss to the Spurs on Sunday night that he had no plans to meet with the Nets.

It has been reported by ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Anthony will meet with the Nets on Tuesday or Wednesday to discuss a possible contract extension, which could help finalize the long-rumored three-team trade.
