Tragedy In Haiti Won't Be Deterrent In Dalembert Trade

Jan 29, 2010 2:41 PM

Philadelphia general manager Ed Stefanski says that the tragedy in Haiti won't be a deterrent in dealing center Samuel Dalembert.

"I don't see that playing into it. Sam's a great person as we all know, and he has been terrific with the situation in Haiti ... he couldn't be a better guy," Stefanski said.

"But if a trade came around and Sam was involved in it, it wouldn't be a factor. I don't see Sam having any issue with that, either."

Sixers Have No 'Untouchables'

Jan 29, 2010 6:05 AM

Philadelphia general manager Ed Stefanski refused to discuss specific trade rumors on Thursday, but he did reveal that no one on the team's roster should be considered off limits.

"I won't talk about trades or rumors," Stefanski said. "I will say that we're very active in talking to teams throughout the league, and we're listening to any option to improve the basketball team. When I was in Jersey, and here, I don't think there are untouchables.

"Anyone can get traded in this league, and we've seen it over and over. But we don't trade a player unless we get value back, basketball-wise."

76ers swingman Andre Iguodala has been mentioned in trade rumors, mainly in a possible deal with the Rockets that would bring Tracy McGrady to Philadelphia.

In addition, reports have indicated that the Cavaliers and 76ers are discussing Iguodala as well.

"You get asked about it by family and friends," he said.

" 'What's going on?' 'What can happen?' There are a lot of different scenarios that can come up, and 95 percent of them are just rumors. I think the most important thing is, wherever you are at that moment in time, you'd better give 100 percent of your time and focus on the job you have."

Rockets Will Only Discuss T-Mac With Sixers If Iguodala Is Included

Jan 28, 2010 11:18 AM

Andre Iguodala has gone from franchise cornerstone to part of a potential bailout plan for Philadelphia.

A source close to the situation has confirmed that the Houston Rockets will only discuss a possible deal for Tracy McGrady and his expiring contract if it involves Iguodala.

ESPN.com linked Iguodala in a possible deal involving the Cleveland Cavaliers last week.

After this season, Iguodala has more than $56 million remaining on his contract.

Dalembert Wants To Remain With 76ers

Jan 25, 2010 8:00 AM

Samuel Dalembert no longer wants to be traded.

The 76ers center, who wanted out last season, is happy in Philadelphia and hopes to remain on the team past the Feb. 18 trade deadline.

"I love the guys we have here," said Dalembert. "Last year I felt like my talent was being wasted. But if I can be on the floor and help out, I'm happy. Now it's about winning."

Philadelphia has won seven of their last 13 games.

Iverson Makes No Apologies For All-Star Start

Jan 23, 2010 9:27 AM

Philadelphia guard Allen Iverson isn't issuing any apologies for having been selected as a starter in next month's All-Star Game.

"The way I look at it is, what should I do?" Iverson said. "Should I worry about what those people say or concentrate on the million-plus people that voted for me? To me, it's a no-brainer. My fans want to see me play and they have the right to put in who they want to put in the game.

"They voted me in, and it's an honor. I don't want to disrespect them by not participating in the game," he said.

Iverson, who began the season in the Western Conference with the Grizzlies, signed with the 76ers in December and has only played in 20 games this year.

He's averaging 14.4 points per game, well below his career mark of 27.0, but still received 1,269,568 votes from the fans to earn a spot in the East's starting lineup.

Iverson briefly retired after an unsuccessful stint with Memphis and his selection sparked criticism of the voting process.

Dalembert Shares Stories From Haiti Visit

Jan 20, 2010 11:33 PM

After Wednesay's game against Portland, Samuel Dalembert began to cry when speaking about what he witnessed in Haiti during his brief visit this week.

?I had surgeries performed in front of me on folding kitchen tables,? Dalembert said. ?The situation is so terrible. Kids are running around with no sandals. Doctors take shifts and work like 20 hours straight. You can see they?re so tired in their eyes, then they hop a plane, sleep and come back two days later (to do it again).?

Dalembert scored 10 points and grabbed 15 boards in the loss.

?He?s been wonderful,? said Sixers coach Eddie Jordan. ?He?s going to be tired tomorrow. He needs to get some rest.?

Dalembert pledged to donate an additional $250,000 after initially pledging $125,000.

Miller Believes Sixers Took Him For Granted

Jan 20, 2010 10:51 AM

Andre Miller believes the Sixers have regressed without a veteran point guard.

"Basically, they're in the same position they were before I got there [in 2006]," Miller said on Tuesday. "That's why I got traded [from Denver] to Philly."

Despite all their injuries, Portland is 18-8 with Miller in the starting lineup.

"You take certain things for granted," Miller said. "[The NBA] is getting younger and younger. You need solid veterans, whether it's a point guard or a big man, who can help the young guys out. That's not a slap in the face at the young guys; older guys can also offer a little bit of knowledge here and there."
