Kings To Receive Competition On Richaun Holmes From Mavs, Knicks, Raptors

Jul 31, 2021 3:43 PM

While Richaun Holmes is ultimately expected to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings in free agency, he is expected to receive interest from a number of other teams.

The Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors have interest in Holmes.

Holmes was also expected to receive interest from the Charlotte Hornets, but their trade for Mason Plumlee and selection of Kai Jones in the draft has seemingly taken them off the board for a center.

Holmes averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.2 minutes this past season with the Kings.

Grizzlies, Kings Were Close To Jonas Valanciunas Trade

Jul 30, 2021 8:23 AM

Before eventually agreeing to a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the draft, the Memphis Grizzlies were in serious talks with the Sacramento Kings on a similar deal, according to Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective Podcast.

The Grizzlies would have sent Jonas Valanciunas to the Kings for the No. 9 pick in the draft and Marvin Begley Jr.

Memphis instead traded up with the Pelicans at No. 10 while also taking back Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe. New Orleans acquired Valanciunas as part of the deal.

Sacramento used the No. 9 pick on Davion Mitchell.

Spurs Interested In Kyle Kuzma As Part Of DeMar DeRozan Sign-And-Trade With Lakers

Jul 29, 2021 3:11 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to discuss a trade involving Kyle Kuzma for Buddy Hield, but could also pivot to a sign-and-trade scenario with the San Antonio Spurs for DeMar DeRozan.

The Lakers' deal with the Sacramento Kings could hinge on Montrezl Harrell picking up his $9.7 million player option for the 21-22 season.

Kuzma previously played for Gregg Popovich as part of the United States' World Cup team. The Lakers signed Kuzma to a three-year, $40 million extension before the 20-21 season.

Buddy Hield To Lakers 'Now Has Real Traction'

Jul 29, 2021 7:34 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers have increased their offer to the Sacramento Kings for Buddy Hield by including the No. 22 pick in the draft along with Montrezl Harrell and either Kyle Kuzma or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

"Hield to L.A. now has real traction," writes O'Connor.

Hield has three seasons left on his contract: $22 million next season, then $20.5 million, and then $18.6 million.

Rob Pelinka represented Hield before he joined the front office of the Lakers.

Montrezl Harrell Could Be Part Of Buddy Hield Trade

Jul 29, 2021 7:28 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings have been engaged in discussions on a Kyle Kuzma for Buddy Hield swap. As that deal would require more salary from the Lakers side, Montrezl Harrell could also be headed to the Kings.

In order for Harrell to be traded to Sacramento, he would need to exercise his $9.7 million player option for 2021-22.

The Kings like the fit of Kuzma and Harrell alongside De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton. Sacramento is trying to break a 15-year playoff drought, and is expected to try to add win-now talent this offseason.

On the Lakers side, they are trying to retool their roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, in hopes of getting back into title contention. According to multiple reports, Kuzma is being shopped, along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the No. 22 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft to bring in help for James and Davis.

The Philadelphia 76ers have also been linked to Hield. It seems likely that a long-rumored Hield trade will be executed this offseason.

Sacramento Tenders Qualifying Offer To Terence Davis

Jul 27, 2021 7:16 PM

The Sacramento Kings have extended a qualifying offer to guard Terence Davis. Davis will now be a restricted free agent. Davis' cap hold and qualifying offer will be $1.9 million. The Kings will have the ability to match any offer sheet Davis signs with another team.

The Kings acquired Davis at the 2021 trade deadline from the Toronto Raptors. In 27 games with Sacramento, Davis averaged 11.1 points per game, while hitting 37.2% of his three-pointers.

As they are likely to be an over-the-cap team, Sacramento can re-sign Davis to provide some shooting off their bench. The Kings have also been rumored to be considering Buddy Hield trades. Davis would provide some of what would be lost in a Hield trade.

Lakers, Kings Discuss Buddy Hield For Kyle Kuzma Trade

Jul 25, 2021 1:54 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings have discussed a trade centered on Buddy Hield for Kyle Kuzma, sources tell The Athletic. The Lakers are seeking an upgrade in the backcourt and have also been linked to free agents Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan and Spencer Dinwiddie.

The Kings previously had interest in Kuzma via trade. Kuzma signed a three-year, $40 million extension with the Lakers before the 20-21 offseason.

The Kings signed Hield to a four-year, $86 million extension in 2019.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday that the Lakers have been incredibly aggressive in offering Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope around the league.

Kings Shop No. 9 For Players To Help Them Win Now

Jul 22, 2021 11:02 AM

The Sacramento Kings have shopped the No. 9 overall pick in the draft for players who can help them win now, sources tell The Ringer.

The Kings finished the 20-21 season with a 31-41 record and were two games out of the final Play-In spot. The Kings last made the playoffs in 2006.

If Sacramento keeps the No. 9 pick, The Ringer currently has Franz Wagner as their selection.

Heat, Kings, Knicks, Rockets, 76ers 'Most Aggressive' In Pursuing Damian Lillard Trade

Jul 20, 2021 2:29 PM

The Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have recently been the "most aggressive suitors" for a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers for Damian Lillard.

Lillard has said he expects to remain with the Blazers next season, but he has become clear in his desire for more urgency in their efforts to contend for a title.

Should Portland eventually decide to trade Lillard, executives in the NBA expect the Blazers to receive a return for Lillard comparable to what the Brooklyn Nets sent the Rockets for Harden. Lillard is signed for four more seasons at $176 million total.

Kings 'Highly Unlikely' To Trade De'Aaron Fox

Jul 14, 2021 9:45 AM

The Sacramento Kings are "highly unlikely" to trade De'Aaron Fox this offseason, sources tell the Sacramento Bee.

Marc Stein of Substack reported this week that the Kings have interest in trading for Ben Simmons. The Kings would likely be willing to offer the Philadelphia 76ers a package of Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley III and multiple first round picks. The 76ers likely wouldn't be interested in a package from the Kings unless it included either Fox or Tyrese Haliburton.

Fox signed a five-year, $163 million extension with the Kings during the 2020 offseason. Fox averaged 25.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 35.1 minutes per game last season.
