Chris Bosh Reportedly Gave Bulls Verbal Agreement In 2010

Jun 29, 2020 2:09 PM

The Chicago Bulls pursued Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James during the 2010 offseason and at point were sure they would at the very least sign Bosh.

"To me the story and conversation starts with Chris Bosh," said Nick Friedell on the Brian Windhorst podcast. "Because you talk to people in that Bulls' organization, including former players... Chris Bosh said he was coming to the Bulls, straight up.

"Chris Bosh and the Bulls were supposed to be together, at least in Chicago's mind. And then as that week played out, as I know you get into in the story, they went 'What's happening here?'

"As far as the Bulls were concerned, they felt like they had a commitment, at least some people in the organization did, from Chris Bosh. They felt like Dwyane Wade would follow. That they hoped that would work out, especially as the days continued into that first weekend.

"Then to see everything kind of fall apart in that fashion and see all three of the big guns go to Miami the way they did, frankly, I still don't think the Bulls are all the way over it."

Later in the podcast, Friedell indicates that Bosh gave the Bulls a verbal commitment during his meeting.

"Chris Bosh, according to more than one person in the organization, said 'I'm coming to play for the Bulls.' Straight up. He said, 'I'm coming to play for the Bulls. This is where I'm gonna be.'"

Heat Want To Pair Victor Oladipo With Giannis Antetokounmpo In 2021

Jun 22, 2020 11:27 AM

The Miami Heat are expected to pursue both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Oladipo in 2021 free agency. The Heat would likely need to acquire at least one of the two players via sign-and-trade due to its lack of cap space for two max slots.

Miami's interest in Oladipo was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Indiana Pacers acquired Oladipo in 2017 from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, & Others Seek Insurance Policies For Potential Career-Threatening Injuries

Jun 13, 2020 4:01 PM

Bam AdebayoD'Aaron Fox, Kyle KuzmaDonovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum had a call with Players Association officials over the possibility of receiving league-financed insurance policies that would protect them against career-threatening injuries suffered in Orlando.

As part of the 2017 class, the five players are eligible for rookie extensions starting in the upcoming free agency period.

The five players believe they are taking on added personal risk due to the possibility of an increase in injuries after taking three months off.

The NBPA and NBA have previously discussed protections in the case of serious COVID-19 illness or career-threatening injury in Orlando.

Insurance policies for the five players could cost in the range of $500,000, though it would be difficult to prove that an injury affected future earnings unless it was career-ending.

Erik Spoelstra: NBA Will 'Use Our Platform' To Continue Conversations Over Social Change

Jun 6, 2020 11:10 PM

Erik Spoelstra and Steve Clifford said that the NBA's return will help to continue conversations surrounding social injustices.

"I don't think anybody is really ready to move on. And we shouldn't. If anything, many times before, so tragically, there would be a similar incident of social injustice like this, and then two weeks later people forget about it. This will be an opportunity for the entire association to land in one spot ... to keep this conversation going and use our platform to make sure that this doesn't go away," said Spoelstra.

Clifford added that players and coaches will continue to use their platform to speak out once the season resumes.

"I think everybody's priority right now and hope is that we can all be part of the change that's so necessary in our country. We'll have a collective platform where everyone can collectively send a message condemning racism, racial injustice, calling for police accountability. There will be a platform, and I think we're all thinking that way," said Clifford.

The National Basketball Coaches Association said it intends to work with "local leaders, officials and law enforcement agencies" to help influence change.
