Omri Casspi Hopes To Find Spot In Cavaliers Rotation

Aug 29, 2012 10:54 AM

Omar Casspi knows he has to improve upon his 2011-12 averages of 7.1 points per game and 40.3 percent shooting to find a place in the Cavaliers rotation.

"Basically, I just have to go back to playing my basketball," Casspi told Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv this week. "To be good, effective, to punish -- everything I didn't do last season. I need to go back to my old self.

"I know that the team brought more players on the wings, and everybody in Cleveland is good. But none of us is an All- Star. We don't have Kobe or LeBron there. Coach [Byron] Scott says that whoever is better will play, and I believe him."

Casspi has enjoyed his time with the Cavaliers.

"I love Cleveland," Casspi told the newspaper. "They gave me a lot, I owe them a big one."

Waiters Addresses Weight, Conditioning Issues

Aug 26, 2012 8:09 PM

Dion Waiters admitted he wasn't in the shape he needed to be for NBA summer league in July.

“It’s different for the NBA draft, when you don’t have to do nothing,” said Waiters, who signed autographs and posed for photos Saturday at a Syracuse area shopping mall. “It was a couple weeks between the draft and summer league. I still wasn’t (in game shape). But now, you see me, there’s a big difference.”

Waiters is preparing for what he hopes will be a long and successful pro career.

“Working on every aspect of my game,” Waiter said. “Just continue to stay in game shape, like I am. Continue to eat right, like I’ve been doing. I’m a professional now. I gotta handle my business like a professional. That’s the main thing. Just staying on top of what I’ve been doing.”

Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Scott Believes C.J. Miles Has Untapped Potential

Aug 22, 2012 10:48 AM

Byron Scott believes the Cavaliers have added a player in C.J. Miles who has untapped potential.

Scott’s belief helped convince Miles to sign with Cleveland.

“I just thought he has so much left in him basketball-wise and it’s really untapped,” Scott said. “There are so many things he can do on a basketball court. I thought he’d be a great fit for us.”

Miles welcomes the opportunity to expand his game.

“My thing coming into the summer wasn’t about money, it was about the best basketball situation,” he said. “I think a lot of people feel like I am who I’m going to be, which I don’t believe is true and obviously the organization feels the same way.”

Scott Encouraged By Dion Waiters' Improved Conditioning

Aug 21, 2012 11:17 PM

Byron Scott watched Dion Waiters work out with other NBA players last week at the Clippers' practice facility.

"He looked a whole lot better," Scott said. "His conditioning was so much better. I had a lot of guys who were playing with him come up and comment to me about how good he looked. So he's on his way."

Scott said Waiters still has a lot of work to do to prepare for training camp.

"But he's on the right path," Scott said. "He's been working, he's healthy again. Skill-wise, there's never been a problem. Not on the offensive end. Obviously on the defensive end, after being at Syracuse for two years and playing zone, he stands around at times. But I don't think that's gonna be a hard thing to break."
