Warriors Owe $40M In Renovations To Oracle Arena

Oct 30, 2018 5:00 PM

The Golden State Warriors have been ordered to pay approximately $40 million for renovations to Oracle Arena.

The government agency that manages the Oakland arena took out a $150 million bond in 1996 for basketball renovations that the team agreed to help finance with annual payments.

Arbitrator Rebecca Westerfield said the team was wrong and agreed to pay for the renovations in 1996. She ordered the team to continue making payments until the bond is paid off in 2027.

The Warriors make annual payments of about $7.5 million to the authority.

DeMarcus Cousins Apologizes To Steve Kerr For Ejection

Oct 29, 2018 1:10 PM

DeMarcus Cousins apologized to Steve Kerr following his ejection on Friday.

"We talked about it [Saturday], and he was great," Kerr said before Sunday night's game against the Brooklyn Nets. "He apologized, and I think he understands this is a different role, different team, different situation. Just got to move forward in his career, and he knows that. That kind of stuff is not going to help us win a championship, it's not going to help his reputation, and I think he understands that. And I think he immediately regretted what happened, so I really appreciated him coming to me and making that pretty clear, and I don't expect it to happen again."

Cousins and Enes Kanter reportedly were talking trash to each other during workouts, which the referees were alerted to in order to keep an eye on the situation.

"Kanter and Cousins were both warned prior to the ejection about talking to the bench," Foster told a pool reporter after the game. "Cousins took exception to the ruling, and during the timeout he was ejected for one technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct."

Cousins has been traveling with the Warriors throughout the season but isn't scheduled to be back on the floor for several months.

Cousins has recently started practicing more with the rest of his teammates instead of just the individual work he's been doing since training camp began.

Billboard Recruiting Kevin Durant To Knicks Goes Up Near MSG

Oct 25, 2018 4:48 PM

A billboard recruiting Kevin Durant to the New York Knicks has gone up near Madison Square Garden.

Durant will be a free agent in 2019 and has been linked with the Knicks.

"Can you make NY sports great again?" posted to Durant's Instagram handle, @easymoneysniper.

Durant is holding the Larry O'Brien Trophy, something the Knicks last won in 1973.

"My business partner and I are lifelong Knick fans, and we are tired of all the losing, so we decided to do our part to in helping our team recruit the best players the NBA has to offer, because that's what New York sports deserves," said Benjamin Pokh, president of the marketing company.

DeMarcus Cousins Making 'Good Progress' With Achilles Rehab

Oct 23, 2018 10:28 AM

DeMarcus Cousins is continuing to make "good progress" in his rehab from a torn left Achilles tendon.

Cousins suffered the injury on Jan. 26.

"I think he'll be more involved in practice," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "He's been doing a lot of individual work most of the young season. He has not participated in most of our practices. He's done work in the weight room, the training room, on the floor before practice, so I think we're going to start seeing him involved in more of our team activities.

"Five-on-0, ballhandling, skill work, and then if we do scrimmage which is very rare, if we do it's usually with the young guys who don't play a lot, he'll probably join those scrimmages."

The Warriors have yet to release a public target date for Cousins to return.

Kerr was asked if Cousins is exceeding expectations in his rehab.

"We're not going down that path," Kerr said with a smile. "He's doing fine, he's doing well."

Steve Kerr: Internal Motivation Sometimes Becomes Getting Greedy With Your Titles

Oct 20, 2018 3:25 PM

Steve Kerr talked about how the Warriors' first title in 2015 was a feeling of job while the one in 2018 felt more like a relief.

Kerr is attempting to use greed as a motivating factor for his superstars.

“I think when you’re talking superstars, when you’re talking about Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, the motivation internally sometimes becomes just getting greedy with your titles and with your place in the history of the league. I don’t use that as a carrot as a coach, but I think a lot of superstar players probably have that on their minds. They can’t ever take it away from you, you’re a champion. But at that point, guys like Steph and KD just get greedy. ‘Let’s get Magic. Let’s get MJ. Let’s go.’”

“You can’t lose the love,” Curry said. When asked how one preserves the meaning of winning, he says, “Draymond was in practice the other day talking about it. There’s a very fine line between just showing up and actually getting stops and playing with love. I mean, you might not win, but you can’t lose that edge. That’s not good for anybody.”

Draymond Green Committed To Spending Entire Career With Warriors

Oct 18, 2018 11:46 AM

Draymond Green will be a free agent in 2020 following the free agencies of Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson in 2019.

"You get to kind of just see everything that happens," Green said. "It’s one of those spots where it’s kind of a decision that will be made for me.

"It’s not that I even need to make much of a decision, but it’s just, boom, here’s everything (this upcoming summer), now do what you need to do."

Green was asked if he's committed to remaining with the Warriors.

"I am," said Green. "I want to be here a long time. I want to spend my career here. I am committed to being here."

Kevin Durant Doesn't Need Recruitment, Appreciation From Warriors

Oct 17, 2018 10:10 AM

Kevin Durant talked about what he's looking for as he begins a season that some have speculated could be his last with the Golden State Warriors.

“I don’t need [to be recruited], I don’t need to feel appreciated,” Durant told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday after a 108-100 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on opening night. “I don’t need anything extra [from the Warriors]. I’m just here to hoop and win games. I already know what this organization is about.”

Durant was the last player introduced during the Warriors' ring ceremony. The last slot is typically designed for Stephen Curry. Team officials insist Durant getting the final call was not a recruiting tactic but a decision to rotate the players.

Durant has already grown tired of free agency questions.

“I just want people to focus on basketball,” Durant said. “Focus on what goes on the court. I know it’s hard to keep up with it. I know it’s easy to look at that type of [expletive] because it’s the entertainment side. But wait until the season is over with to analyze [free agency]. I know it’s your job and it’s hard to say that, but try to shift some of your focus to the court, too. I know you have to still do your job and check on stuff like that, but every day? Every city I go to? Come on, man. I said what I had to say at media day. I understand your job, but let’s come to a little agreement. Don’t ask me every time you see me. If it’s the first time I’m seeing y’all, I don’t mind answering. But every time? Come on, bro.”

Rival executives believe Durant will seriously consider other teams this offseason.
